Norm and I were in the same speech class Mrs.Blum taught, last class of the day. Norm sat first chair front and center. Whenever we had to stand at the front to deliver whatever required speech had been assigned, the first person seen was Norm. It would take every conceivable effort to not look at him. If you did, you would run the risk of cracking up and losing whatever composure you had and laugh. He would sit with those long legs of his stretched out in front of him taking up most of the assigned area for speech delivery. Leaning way back, he would concentrate or sleep with his eyes open, never really could tell. He probably never knew that due to his participation in the question and answer part of my instructional speech, he saved my you know what. I will never know if he started asking questions just to annoy me or really was interested. He started asking questions that eventually caused others to do so also. Had he not done it I might still be standing there. He will be remembered by me for being witty. However, I attended many a basketball game and never got tired of hearing "Sweet Georgia Brown" and watching our team take the court. He had an obvious presence, a great smile and contributed greatly to the tapestry of memories woven and shared by our class.

I remember Norm as a really great guy and friend.  He was so tall & I so short.  We called him Lobes as you all remember.  I read the announcement the other day and was in shock as it was 5 years ago when I read about another great friend leaving before the 40th, Jay Naylor.  Norm you will be missed this year at the 45th but not forgotten.  I will drink one for you my friend.
