The Friendship Afghan Project is a volunteer project to provide an afghan to a Bond Club member who has experienced a natural disaster (fire/flood/tornado/hurricane), extended recovery due to an accident or illness or other  in their life. Our project has grown to now include distributing afghans to new babies and children's afghans as needed.  Please notify me if you know there is a need for a Bond Hug from the Friendship Afghan Project.
To become a Friendship Afghan volunteer please send me your full name, mailing address, and if you are willing to knit and/or assemble.

If you know of a Bond Club member who should receive a Friendship Afghan please send an email with their name and circumstance.
When you volunteer to help with the Friendship Afghan Project you will be asked to knit a panel for an afghan or you can sign up to assemble the panels knitted by others.  It takes two or three panels to make the afghan pattern we are currently going to use.  You will be donating a couple of hours of your time and the yarn needed to knit a panel.  The yarn requirements and pattern will be sent to you by return email.  Please indicate your desire to knit or assemble in your email.
Bond Frienship Afghan Project volunteers has made and distributed over 200 items since the beginning of 2000.  This is a great way to reach out and give a little encouragement  The thank you notes are so heart warming!  Here are a few excerpts ......

When I opened the package I cried because I felt so loved and cared for by people I don't know and who don't know me.
Thank you , Thank you, Thank you!!!   Phyllis

Thank you so very much for the lovely afghan you sent me.  You have no idea how much it meant to me to open this box and find it.  I just sat a cried at such a sweet gesture.  It is big enough for 2, so my daughter and I curl up in it together and watch TV and read.  It is so nice to know that someone really cares.  When you lose the person who is the center of your life, life can seem really bleak.  Your time and efforts are appreciated and know you made our day when we opened the box! Thanks again and it really cheered us up.

Please Help!  We need more volunteers!
We are also making shrugs to send if an afghan does not seem to be appropriate to the circumstance.  A pattern for the shrug will be sent to you if you request it when sending your name, etc.
A Bond Shrug Hug is another item we send.  This pattern is by Ann Yotter.  Knit some shrugs for our pantry and receive the pattern!
Thank you volunteers for extending your hearts and talents to these families in need!
April 21, 2001 Hoisington KS was hit by an F4 tornado. Our volunteers reached out with open hearts again.  Here are more pictures of the afghans they sent.
Now that you've visited why not volunteer!
September 2004 will be known for the month in which hurricanes Charley, Frances, and Ivan devasted many areas in Florida.  Within a short period of time the great volunteers from the Bond Online Knitting Club were sending beautiful afghans to families in the area. Here are more pictures of the afghans sent specifically for the Hurricane Outreach of the Friendship Afghan Project. Thank you Friendship Angels!
Congratulations Friendship Volunteers on 5 years of caring, compassion and outreach!
