John Wayne (A little history) Birth Name: Marion Michael Morrison May 26, 1907 - June 11, 1979 Jacob McCandles was the name of a character played by John Wayne in the movie "Big Jake" (1971) Maureen O'Hara, his estranged leading lady sent for him to go after the bandits that kidnapped his grandson...an all time great movie! "The Duke" was a nickname for John Wayne , he was admired by millions of fans for many of his movies such as "McLintock" (1963), a cattle rancher who saves the town, or taking out the bad guys as a United States Marshall in "True Grit" (1969) and "Rooster Cogburn" (1975) (one of my favorites), actress Katherine Hepburn played opposite him in this great film, another favorite of mine...and sometimes a war hero in "The Alamo" (1960) which cost him his fortune...any many others...there are too many to mention all of them! 187 movies either staring or about John Wayne from the years 1926 to 1998. To see a list of all his movies click here. He is a favorite of my husband's and mine so it seemed only fitting to name our big boy after him, who is also our hero... |
