This is Mac-He is a California Valley Quail.My best friend for 7 1/2 years.We had ordered his mom and dad from a place in Missouri-when she laid eggs we put them in the incubator.Mac was the first to hatch. He turned in circles and the others did not like him so they bit his eye-Naturally he then came out with us and became our best friend. They say Quail only live 2-3 years-Macs brother Skinny lived to be 5. When we found out my husband had cancer we sent the other 5 boys with a friend back to Ca. to be let loose on the Hoopa Indian Reservation where they could be free.The girls all laid themselves to death-another good example of why wild birds do not belong in captivity-even if hatched.They needed privacy to sit on their eggs. Mac turned 7years old on May 8,2001.They are easily papertrained and love to sit on the arm of your chair-as long as you have a paper towel and keep it clean.They are "covey" critters and do not like you to leave-even the room-Mac would call me back and actually yell at me if I went somewhere when I got back-he would run and bite my shoes when I put them on as that meant I was going somewhere and he wanted me to sit down and stay.At night he slept in his house beside the bed and I had to put my hand in there until he went to sleep. He loved apples and jellied cranberries,potatoes-white cake,hot dogs,pizza and especially popcorn-my grandaughter Christy shared with him. Whatever I ate he flew up and grabbed a piece and then jumped down and ran with it.
Now his friends are with me Cockatiels Fred,Sunny,and Boogie Bird.Lovebirds Pretty & Bird and Silly & Girl.Tweety and Sweety Parakeets.And Fuzz-a Shepard Chow who we rescued at the pound Nov. 2003..ohoh lol new kitty Dec.2004 her name is Lil Kitty and she likes my birds or rather tolerates them lol

I just received a new Mac.YIPPEE- His name is Papa and hes almost like Mac :)
