1. The applicant cannot apply for the scholarship unless he/she is at least a junior in high school. If the applicant is a junior at the scholarship’s due date, then he/she meets this criteria.
2. The applicant must have been a member of the PPWHANC for two consecutive years prior to applying for the scholarship.
3. The applicant cannot be over 24 years of age.
2. Scholarship Committee:
The committee can be made up of board members and/or non-board members. It will consist of at least three club members. The committee will be responsible for:
A. Publishing the announcement in the May newsletter issue giving the applicant plenty of time to obtain his/her transcript before the October 1 deadline.
B. Writing an article for the PPWHANC newsletter asking for volunteers to serve on the scholarship committee.
C. Mailing the scholarship packets to members as they request it.
D. Meeting with the other members and reviewing the applicant’s application and determining a winner.
E. Requesting additional information from the applicant if necessary.
F. Presenting future proposals and change requests to the board members pertaining to the scholarship program. The committee will need the approval of the board members before making any changes.
G. Writing an article for the NWHA to publish in the National News.
3. Amount: $500

A. Current Transcript
B. A letter of recommendation from a PPWHNAC member
C. A letter of recommendation for another person, school consoler, riding instructor, etc.
D. Essay
E. Typed answers of the questionnaire
5. Other information:
A. The applicant may reapply each year if they do not win. They cannot apply again once they have won.
B. The winning applicant will be announced at the annual Christmas Party. They will not receive the monetary reward however, until they present proof of enrollment at a university or college to a scholarship committee member. This could be a cancelled check or a copy of an acceptance letter.
C. Financial need is not a consideration in determining the winner.
D. Only one scholarship will be awarded per year.
E. All scholarship information is to be held in the strictest of confidence. All applications and supporting material become the property of PPWHANC and will not be returned.
F. Scholarships are to be awarded on the basis of academic ability, leadership, extracurricular activities and involvement in equine activities.
