The Attic Gallery Story
(Written on the occasion of the Attic's 25th Anniversary)
On October 6, 1996 it had been twenty five years since Lesley Silver began a journey that would define her life. On that day in 1971 she opened the Attic Gallery, a mysterious shop hidden on the second floor of an old building in downtown Vicksburg, Mississippi. Today she and the shop are still there. |

Through the Attic Window - Essays by D. Boone Goodbye, Ruby I know it was over twenty five years ago when I was first invited to go to Ruby's Hot Tamale Hut for lunch. "No, I don't think so," I replied.
"Why not?"
"Well, it's a Black Place."
"So what?"
Yeah, I asked myself that, too. Was I afraid? Yes. Of what? |

People Say:
"To me the Attic Gallery's strongest attribute resides in the fact that it's such an excellent center for conversation-something for which the human soul strongly yearns and something television, air conditioning, and a dearth of front porches have taken away. And the round table at the Attic Gallery, though piled high with stuff I'm pretty sure has been there since opening day and surrounded by the world's most uncomfortable chairs and stools, is as good a place for it as any electronic forum."
Charlie Mitchell: Vicksburg Post - Vicksburg, Mississippi - October, 1996
