What can I say about Sir Slickster? Slick was born on December 18, 2002 and came home to us on March 1, 2003. He was actually a 40th birthday present for my husband, Chris, who had always wanted a bulldog. I was previously owned by Labs, Shepards or Goldens. I never wanted a "funny-looking" Bulldog. Slick immediately bonded with his older sister, Amber, the golden retriever. She wasn't to fond of him in the beginning, but they have become best buddies since.
Once Slick came into our home and my heart, I can honestly say my life changed. I immediately joined the local bulldog club and started attending meetings and volunteering. I found Bulldogsworld and all the wonderful people I have met through the site. I became involved with Long Island Bulldog Rescue and have since adopted another bulldog, Hammer.
Whenever I am running around helping rescue, or online looking at all the wonderful pictures on BDW, Chris says, "I wanted a bulldog, not a life changing experience." He wasn't kidding!
I can honestly say that Slick has been a life changing experience. He makes me laugh everyday with his crazy antics. He is a giant teddy bear who likes things his way. He is my protector, and I am never afraid when he is near. He wouldn't hurt a fly unless someone was hurting one of his own. He is the kindest, gentlest soul I have ever met.
Special thanks to my husband, Chris, for introducing me to such a wonderful breed and for allowing Slick to be a "mama's boy" even though he was his birthday present.
Thank you to Bulldogsworld for always being there for us, for teaching us about this wonderful breed, for the many friends I have made through BDW and to Dave (Webbie) for picking Slick as October 2008 Bulldog of the Month.
