The Dog and Partridge pub is situated on School Lane in Standish, which is a small village on the outskirts of Wigan in Lancashire, just off Junction 27 on the M6. In 2002 it underwent a superb redecoration, including a heated outdoor seating area.
The quiz has been running on a Wednesday evening here since 1990. It consists of three rounds - 20 questions in the first half, a picture quiz of 15 'famous' faces and the final round of another 25 posers. It is based on an 'On This Day In History' format, with a few general knowledge questions thrown in.
It costs 50 pence (0.8 euros) per person to enter and there is generally no limit to the number of players in each team. The winner(s) receive all the monies as prizes.
As an added element one of the contestants is randomly selected to answer 'Dave's Dilemma', (named after the landlady Janet's husband) which, if they do so successfully win even more cash.
Not forgetting Janet's delicious, piping-hot, free pasties.
