WHAT IS IRON CHEF? |
For people who have never seen the show before, Iron Chef is basically a cooking contest, which originated in Japan, between an "Iron Chef" and a challenger from anywhere around the world. The chairman, portrayed by Takeshi Kaga, before the battle unveils a theme ingredient that the competitors must incorporate into their creative and unique dishes. Both competitors have one hour to create their dishes. Afterwards, both competitors' dishes are graded by a four-member panel, on a scale of 20 points. Following that, the chairman dramatically announces who is the winner based on total points. If there is a tie on points, there is a 30 minute overtime battle, using a different ingredient. An overtime battle rarely happens on the show, though. If a challenger beats an Iron Chef, that person does not replace the Iron Chef, rather, they have the joy of having defeated one of the top chefs in the world. |

Iron Chef airs on Food Network, Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 to 11:00 PM, and 1:00-2:00 AM. It also airs on Sundays from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Eastern time. |
