Where is Farmersville?
Back to Concerned Citizens' Home Page
There are currently three new landfills under review in New York State:

Farmersville (proposed by Integrated Waste Systems of Buffalo, NY) (DEC Region 9)

Albion (proposed by Waste Management of New York, whose parent is Waste Management, Inc., of Houston, TX) (DEC Region 8)

Ava (proposed by the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority, a municipal body created by an act of the New York State Legislature) (DEC Region 6)
If approved by NYSDEC, these three facilities as currently planned will add approximately 1.5 million tons per year to New York's garbage disposal capacity.  NYSDEC is also considering adding about the same amount from existing landfills that have applied for approval to expand. Pennslyvania today hosts over eight million tons per year of garbage, most from NYC, Long Island, and New Jersey.

Statewide, landfill capacity has been increased by millions of tons in recent years by the expansion of existing landfills in Waterloo, Mill Seat, Riga, Angelica, Diana, and Ellery, all in western and central New York. Additional expansions are proposed in Lewiston and Chaffee, both in western New York. The western New York communities of Brant and Eagle are also being pressured to consider hosting new landfills.
