The Moral Law

Did Jesus fulfill the Law? Yes He did, He said so very clearly. Does this mean that the Law is gone, because Jesus fulfilled it? Well in the same passage Jesus said the Law would never be gone, as long as there was both Earth and sky. He said He didn't come to change it, and He did not come to destroy it.

Who will you believe, Jesus? Or the scads of "teachers" who so viciously "teach" otherwise...?

THE LAW of GOD

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 (2 Timothy 1:13)

Don't put the cart before the horse. Ever hear that proverb before? Probably, because it is so old and so overused that it has become a cliche; however, the good thing about cliches is that as time changes, people forget, and the cliches lose their meaning, and can be resurrected with new power. Now, in this case, to the yuppy mindset, the cliche would best be used as: "Don't put the jetski trailer in front of the truck!" Would it make much sense to hook up the trailer in front of the truck? It wouldn't work, would it? You'd sit there in your truck, staring at the trailer in front of you, and you would not be able to drive very far, would you?

Yet, in Christianity, that is exactly what people -- especially pastors and laymen and teachers, oh my -- attempt to do with the Law of God.

It is completely wrong to state: "If you want to go to heaven you better start keeping the 10 Commandments!" This is a false statement, yet many teachers teach that it is true. Not many, but some. They are a dying breed; however, new life will flow into this teaching, soon, despite it being a false teaching. It will be a new and improved false teaching, and these false teachers, who will soon become falser leaders, will seek to enforce their legalistic doctrine of demons with muscle, power, authority and police-state brutality.

It is just as completely wrong to state: "We should NOT keep the 10 Commandments, because we're not under the law, because Jesus destroyed the law, beause we're not saved by the law." Or Jesus FULFILLED the Law, and so now we don't have to keep the law, cuz we ain't undah de law!

This second teaching is just as false as the first.

Fact is, the Bible teaches from front cover to back -- Genesis to Revelation, THAT WE SHOULD KEEP THE LAW OF GOD. That the Law of God is perfect. That it is holy, just and good. That when employed properly, it is a teacher, a helpful friend, and a guide.

Only, don't put the jetski trailer in front of the truck. We should keep the Law of God. But we should not keep it to earn our way to heaven, or for highly lucrative brownie points. We should keep the Law of God, and yet a portion of the Law definitely was "nailed to the cross" and has no business in our life anymore. We should keep the Law of God, because it is the will of God, and if we accept Jesus as our Savior, truly, we will be filled with the Holy Spirit, and He will lead us to obey God and keep His commandments. But there were "shadow" portions of the law that were completed by Jesus at His death.

Did you know that there is a Moral Law (the 10 Commandments, the Royal Law), and it was handled far differently than the Ceremonial Law (called the "Law of Moses")? Of course not. That's not what you were taught, because people don't want you to know about it. It's amazing that people often say, with the best intentions: "I'm under the New Covenant, not the Old Covenant," and they don't even know what the New Covenant IS! Let's take a quick peek at WHAT it is and (shockingly) who it is with:

For this is the covenant that I will make with the house

of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my

laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts:

and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a

people: And they shall not teach every man his

neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know

the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the

greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness,

and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no

more. In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made

the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old

is ready to vanish away. Hebrews 8:10-13

Isn't that AMAZING? God writes His laws into the mind and into the heart. His laws, the very same as delineated in the Old Testament, in fact the "New Covenant" is first spelled out in the Old Testament, in Jeremiah 31:31-35. And yet people, Christian, teach that it is impossible for Christians to sin (without law there is no sin, so if there is no law, then there is no sin, thus Christians cannot sin because Jesus destroyed the law!). That they get an "Amazing Holy Ghost Coat" of "Sealing" and then that thar sin don't be stickin' to ya no moah!" So the Christian can do whatever he so desires, from bestiality to murder to blasphemy, and yet they do not sin! And here is the New Covenant spelled out in the Bible, multiple times -- with ISRAEL (for goodness sake!) -- that God will write HIS LAW in our mind, in our heart! Wowzers, not quite what is being taught in the majority of Christian churches, is it?

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the

prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For

verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one

jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law,

till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break

one of these least commandments, and shall teach

men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom

of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them,

the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:17-19

All has not been fulfilled (of course, there are slithery tentacles of Christianity that claim that all has been fulfilled, that Jesus has already come back, that the Kingdom of Heaven is already in place, that the righteous and the wicked have been judged, that the thousand years have taken place, but you know differently, don't you?), and so the law and the prophets are still in place, unchanged, unmoving, like God Himself. God has made a New Covenant, writing the very same laws into the Christian's heart.

The question is, are you a Christian? Are you under the New Covenant? If so, are you of the House of Israel? Are you God's elect? The people of God? Abraham's seed? An heir according to the promise? All of these promises, straight out of the Bible, straight to Gentiles along with Jews, for all people. Nobody is born into God's favor, nor were they ever -- God has NEVER favored a "race" above other "races." It has always been, and always will be, a matter of FAITH, an individual's faith, not a group's faith. Abraham was saved by faith, just like the Christian of today, under the New Covenant. Abraham was under the New Covenant!

So, are YOU a New Covenant Christian? Has He written His 10 Commandments in your mind, in your heart? Or do you scorn God's Law? Are you among the hoppers that bounce up and down and shriek: "I ain't undah de law!" Or has God written His laws with His own finger upon the tablets of your heart?

So let's take a closer look at the "handwriting of ordinances against us" and find out what that ACTUALLY is and what you have been taught that it is:

And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision

of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having

forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of

ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us,

and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having

spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them

openly, triumphing over them in it. Let no man therefore

judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday,

or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a

shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Colossians 2:13-17

One of the truly humorous things here is that people actually attempt to use this passage to get out of obeying God! I've even heard people say: "See, it says you don't have to keep the Sabbath!"

Read it again! It really is funny. It is talking about DOING, not "NOT DOING," judging in meat, in drink, or sabbath days (have you ever heard anyone say: "Don't judge me because I don't eat any more! I've given up food! That's right, Colossians 2:13-17 says I don't have to eat food or drink water!" Isn't that something? It's scripture twisting! I, of course, as a Sabbath keeper, can say: "Don't judge me because I keep the Sabbath! Colossians 2:13-17 says so!" I don't have to tell you, the people who read the scripture plainly are the ones that get called "legalists!" Isn't that something? So don't judge Sabbath keepers -- now, if you choose to create a "new sabbath," or one in seven instead of the seventh, are you at all covered by this verse in Colossians? Good, keep learning.

Okay, what exactly is "handwriting of ordinances against us?"

And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of

writing the words of this law in a book, until they were

finished, That Moses commanded the Levites, which

bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying, Take

this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of

the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be

there for a witness against thee. Deuteronomy 31:24-26

Moses wrote this law in a book! And then put it in the side compartment of the Ark of the Covenant! Then the truly amazing thing, this law is to be a "witness against thee!" Bing bing BING! That's a bell ringing. Whoa, see that light flashing! A perfect match to Colossians 2:13-17, isn't it? Man oh man alive, have you ever heard anyone tell the truth about these verses, or have you heard people twist these verses into saying something they don't even say?

Now, what about God's Moral Law, the 10 Commandments:

And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of

communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of

testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

Exodus 31:18

Whoa, whoa, whoa! SO, like, wow, dude, there's like, you know, a remarkable difference! Moses' law was written in a book, in handwriting, by Moses, while the 10 Commandments were written with the finger of God (that's hardly handwriting, is it?)! How come Christians today do not know these facts? Maybe that's why false teachers teach that the Old Testament is no longer important, that only the New Testament matters to a Christian. Perhaps these teachers do not wish you to know the truth. Because, is it even POSSIBLE for man to put aside what God has carved in STONE? If you found the original stone tablets, today, would you immediately smash them? These are tables of rock that God carved His will upon, His law. With His OWN FINGER? Think about it, if you found these tablets today, you might actually see God's fingerprints impressed into the stone! But what about where the stone tablets were stored -- the Book of Moses law was in a side compartment of the ark -- where were the 10 Commandments kept?

Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the

covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein

was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's

rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant

(Hebrews 9:4). (Deuteronomy 10:2,5, Exodus 25:21,

1 Kings 8:9, 2 Chronicles 5:10)

Isn't that incredible? There really was a difference! The tables of stone, which God wrote on with His own finger, were placed INSIDE THE MERCY SEAT, just the same as the New Covenant, wherein God will write His laws INSIDE the heart and mind of those who accept His Son! While the Law of Moses, written by Moses' hand in a book, was placed in a side compartment, and it was to be against the Jews as a testimony! Hey, but what about this OTHER New Testament verse:

Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the

law of commandments contained in ordinances;

for to make in himself of twain one new man, so

making peace. Ephesians 2:15

It should make sense now, or at least a little more, shouldn't it? You can read most of the Laws of Moses in Leviticus Chapter 23, complete with "ceremonial sabbaths," the ones mentioned in that same Chapter 2 of Colossians. Now, let's take a further look, comparing "The Law of Moses" with "The Ten Commandments:"

The 10 Commandments & Moses' Ceremonial Law

14. Established by Faith in Christ (Romans 3:31) - 14. Abolished by Christ (Ephesians 2:15)

15. Christ magnified law, honorable (Isaiah 42:21) - 15. Handwriting Against Us (Colossians 2:14)

16. The Law is Spiritual (Romans 7:14) - 16. Carnal Commandment (Hebrews 7:16)

Hebrews Chapter 9 makes the perfect comparison between "the ordinances" of the Old Covenant, compared to Christ's atonement as the "New Covenant." The old ordinances, those nailed to the cross of Christ, were shadows of Christ's death and sacrifice and atonement -- they were not the actuality, they could not truly forgive sins or make perfect -- only Jesus could do that. All the ordinances here on Earth were just "patterns" or "shadows" of realities that we don't fully comprehend to this date! We see as if through a mirror darkly, but when He comes we will see reality, face to face!

It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things

in the heavens should be purified with these; but the

heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices

than these. Hebrews 9:23

Verses 26-28 show that Jesus DIED ONCE for all the saved, covering the debts accumulated from the beginning of the world! Jesus said that the law would still be here, in full, until ALL THINGS BE FULFILLED -- obviously, there is still MUCH to happen as depicted in the Gospels and Revelation. Thus the law still stands, to this day, and people are teaching people that Jesus "destroyed the law!"

The true key here, that makes the Bible work together, Law and Grace, Grace and Law, is that we "are saved by grace through faith, and that not of our own, it is a gift of God." Nobody has ever been saved by keeping the law, and nobody ever will. BUT. Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, leads us to keep the Law of God (not the Law of Moses), even writing His laws upon our heart and mind when we truly accept Him, and we cannot truly accept Him until we have searched for Him with all our heart.

He DOES NOT lead us to keep the law to be saved.

Read that sentence again. Jesus does not lead us to keep the Ten Commandments in order for us to be saved. He leads us to keep His law, His will, BECAUSE we are saved. Notice the difference? We do not wear a wedding ring because we want to get married someday, or because we think it will prepare us to get married -- why DO people wear wedding rings? Obviously, because they are married. No law is written to wear a ring -- it is a choice. And accepting Jesus, we accept the Holy Spirit, and we consent to be sculpted like clay.

But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the

clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work

of thy hand. Isaiah 64:8

So, if this is all true -- and, obviously, it IS all in the Bible, then scripture should be taken more seriously, scriptures such as Matthew 5:17-19 and John 14:15-31)! Pay attention to the words of Jesus. Remember, His words ARE spirit!

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing:

the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they

are life. John 6:63

Romans 6:1-2, 1 John 5:2,3, Hebrews 10:15-16, 1 John 2:3,4, James 2:10-12, Revelation 12:17, 14:12 -- are all these verses "for the Jews?" Remember, that wall of separation is GONE. To God, there are no more Jews, or Gentiles, there are only the "People of God," the "True Israel of God." Remember: "For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God." (Romans 2:28-29) I'm not ashamed to be Jewish, if God so wills to call me. I'm proud of it, I love being Israel!

I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea,

thy law is within my heart. Psalm 40:8

I've even heard some poor spiritually discombobulated souls boast: "Don't keep ANY of the commandments, because, you see, the Bible says that if you keep ANY of the commandments, and break even one, then you break them all! So don't keep ANY of them, that's the safest thing to do!"

You might think I'm exaggerating, or joking, or misrepresenting, but no, I'm portraying exactly what some "bible teachers" preach, or teach, or lie. Let's look at the verse they attempt to mangle into their own sermon of disobedience:

For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet

offend in one point, he is guilty of all. James 2:10

Now, what is the message here? That you shouldn't keep God's law? So, in order not to be guilty of breaking all of God's laws, we should break all of God's laws, right? Does THAT make sense? By breaking all of God's laws, we are not guilty, right? What's better, to keep nine commandments, and break one, or just to outright break all ten?

(Incidentally, as a note of explanation, this passage is talking about "The Ten Commandments," otherwise known as the moral law, or Royal Law, see Verse 8 -- this passage is not talking about "The Law of Moses," otherwise known as the "Ceremonial Law.")

Obviously, the only way to NOT be guilty, is to NOT break any of the laws. All of us break His laws, so all of us are guilty. Um, er, that's what makes a Savior necessary.

Read ALL of James Chapter 2 -- the message is that TRUE FAITH produces FRUIT (in other words, WORKS). Now, don't get that out of order. Faith produces works, not the other way around! We don't go out and start doing a whole bunch of works so that we can generate more faith -- the Bible is explicit in that faith comes from God, not from works. BUT, faith produces fruit, that's why in the same chapter of James we learn: "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." (Verse 26)

The whole chapter is talking about "walking the walk," not just "talking the talk" (pretty original metaphor, that, what say?). We know that faith is from God, but how do we know that we HAVE faith? Why, if God brings good works out of us! And yet time after time preachers and teachers attempt to flip-flop the whole meaning, and teach us that we shouldn't obey God. For the yuppies: don't put the jetski trailer in front of the truck. There is nothing wrong with jetskis or trailers or trucks, but you have to use them together harmoniously. The jetski goes on the trailer, not the trailer on the jetski, and you don't cruise around the lake on the trailer, nor on the truck, and you don't pull the truck with either the jetski or the trailer.

The truck pulls the trailer on which sits the jetski. Correct?

Read the Book of James (the whole book is good), especially Chapter 2 which I present to you here:

My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ,

the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. For if there

come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in

goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in

vile raiment; And ye have respect to him that weareth

the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a

good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit

here under my footstool: Are ye not then partial in

yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the

poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom

which he hath promised to them that love him? But ye

have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you,

and draw you before the judgment seats? Do not they

blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are

called? If ye fulfil the royal law according to the

scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do

well: if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and

are convinced of the law as transgressors. For

whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in

one point, he is guilty of all. For he that said, Do not

commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou

commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become

a transgressor of the law So speak ye, and so do, as

they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. For he

shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed

no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment. What

doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath

faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a

brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye

warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not

those things which are needful to the body; what doth

it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead,

being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and

I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and

I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest

that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also

believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man,

that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our

father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his

son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with

his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And

the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed

God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and

he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by

works a man is justified, and not by faith only. Likewise

also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when

she had received the messengers, and had sent them out

another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead,

so faith without works is dead also. James 2:1-26

Do you see that it is just the opposite of what the teachers of today teach? We SHOULD keep the law, but not for salvation. We cannot earn salvation, as it is a free gift. But. If we allow God to work in us, shaping us like clay, the Holy Spirit will lead us to keep the law of God, to love God with all our heart, and mind, and soul, and strength, and spirit (Commandments #1 through #4 of the Ten Commandments, all about worship of God) and then we will love our neighbor as ourself (Commandments #5 through #10 of the Ten Commandments, all about loving other people). That is living faith, when out of our faith comes the works of God!
