Born in Tioga, Texas, as young Orvon Gene Autry, the first of four children to Delbert and Elnora Ozment Autry on September 29, 1907. His father was a livestock dealer and horse trader, and his mother helped in teaching him to play the guitar. His grandfather was William Autry, a Baptist minister who had Gene singing in the church choir at the young age of 5. Gene Autry had a Full, Exhillerating life even through the hardships he was an inspiration to many. He never gave up on his dreams. Perhaps this is his best legacy he gave us, to show us that we can reach to the stars and achieve most anything. Gene Autry passed away on October 2, 1998. |
