NEXT NAC MEETING IN OCTOBER:  DATE AND LOCATION CHANGE!!
The next meeting of the Greenway NAC will be on October 23, 2003 at 7:00 PM. We will meet at the Beaverton Resource Center, 12500 SW Allen Blvd. This is the location of the old Beaverton Library at the intersection of Hall Blvd and Allen Blvd. The date and location have changed due to an October scheduling conflict with Conestoga Middle School. Look for the agenda flyer in the mail next month. Our guest speaker will be the City of Beaverton Mayor Rob Drake. Rob will give us his vision for the city as well as answer any questions you may want to ask him. This meeting will also be our annual election meeting.

125th /BROCKMAN/GREENWAY INTERSECTION CONSTRUCTION
The intersection reconstruction project is progressing on schedule. The construction will close the entrance from Oxbow onto Greenway starting in early October. This will require all upper Greenway traffic to use Davies Road as their entrance to Greenway. Oxbow will be closed for approximately thirty days. The entire project should be completed around mid December. I will have the latest update at the October NAC meeting.

125th EXTENSION UPDATE
The 125th extension project is being done in three phases. Phase 1 is the 125th/Brockman/Greenway intersection project. Phase 2 is wetlands mitigation and storm detention at the north end of the project near Hall Boulevard. Beaverton is currently doing a detailed study on Phase 2 to determine the scope and cost of the storm detention and wetlands mitigation. Phase 3 is the actual road construction. The cost of phase 3 is estimated at nine to eleven million dollars. There is currently no funding available for phase 3.

PROPOSAL TO PROHIBIT LEFT TURNS FROM GREENWAY INTO ALBERTSON'S
Albertson's appealed the April 3, 2003 decision of the Beaverton Traffic Commission to prohibit left turns from the southbound lane of SW Greenway into Albertson's driveway. Albertson's was successful in their June 16, 2003 appeal and left turns will now be prohibited from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm only. This issue will come back to city council in six months to evaluate the success of the limited left turn prohibition and look at the possibility of an additional left turn lane after the city has had time to study the costs of an additional lane.

WASHINGTON SQUARE REGIONAL CENTER
The Washington Square area has been identified by Metro as one of several regional centers in the metropolitan area. Regional centers create higher density for employment, housing, transit, and compact development. The Washington Square Regional Center boundary on the west side is Fanno Creek. While the majority of the Washington Square Regional Center is in Tigard, the Nimbus business center is in Beaverton and Beaverton has hired a consultant to help with planning for the area bounded by Scholls Ferry, Hall Boulevard, and Fanno Creek. Watch for information on this as Beaverton tries to plan for the future of this area.  There is some thought that maybe the Nimbus business center should not be part of the regional center since the Commuter rail station is now planned to be south of Scholls Ferry in Tigard. The View Master site ground pollution also makes this area difficult to develop.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION EVENTS
What we do in our own backyard or garden makes a difference in the quality of our rivers, streams and wildlife habitat. That's why Metro offers a variety of programs and events to help keep our environment safe and healthy.

Through November, Metro is offering household hazardous waste collection events. Events take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following Washington County locations:

Saturday, Sept. 27
Beaverton City Hall
4755 SW Griffith Drive

Friday and Saturday, Oct. 10 and 11
Mooberry Elementary School
1230 NE 10th Ave., Hillsboro

Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24 and 25
Intel Hawthorn Farm Campus
5200 NE Elam Young Parkway, Hillsboro

Friday and Saturday, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1
Rock Creek Community Church
4470 NW 185th Ave., Portland

Once you've cleaned those products out of your home, Metro can help you have a healthy yard or garden by using "greener" methods.
