GREENWAY NEWSLETTER December 2001 Issue 32 NEXT NAC MEETING IN JANUARY - SPECIAL LOCATION AND SPEAKER The next meeting of the Greenway NAC will be on January 17, 2002 at 7:00 PM. We will meet at the new Beaverton Resource Center (The Old Library Building at Hall and Allen). Beaverton Mayor Rob Drake will be our guest speaker and also lead a tour of the newly remodeled Resource Center. The April 2002 and October 2002 meetings will be held at the usual Conestoga Middle School site. HALL BOULEVARD RIGHT TURN LANE Beaverton City Council decided to not require a Hall Boulevard eastbound right turn lane be added at Greenway as part of the Hall Boulevard Bike Lane construction between Ridgecrest Drive and Cascade. The right turn lane was dropped after hearing that its cost would greatly exceed earlier estimates. The adjacent apartment project was also concerned about some of their units being within seven feet of Hall Boulevard. There was also testimony about the difficulty of entering Greenway from side streets since the right turn lane would probably cause continuous traffic on Greenway at rush hour with no breaks between cars. HALL BOULEVARD PEDESTRIAN ISLAND There is a proposal before the Beaverton Traffic Commission to put a pedestrian island in the center turn lane on Hall Boulevard at the point where the Greenway Park pedestrian path crosses Hall Boulevard. Since traffic now lines up in this lane westbound for the turn onto Greenway, traffic would be forced to line up on the westbound inner lane of Hall. The traffic engineers say their models indicate that this would not impede traffic since the outer westbound lane on Hall could handle all of the westbound traffic. The issue will come before the Traffic Commission on December 6, 2001 at 7:00 PM.. The Traffic Commission meets at Beaverton City Hall in the City Council Chambers. This is a public hearing with citizen testimony allowed. For more information call Randy Wooley at 503-526-2443. HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE On Tuesday, December 11 the city will host a Holiday Open House.
