Cook's Family Homepage
We've been in Japan two and a half years.  We still love it and still are happy we came.  Our house is still great, but full of too much stuff.  We need to cull again!  We are surviving the worst winter here in about 30 years.  The front porch has about 18" of solid ice on the roof.  We're hoping the landlord can get someone to pry it off before it falls and kills someone!  We've had over 12' of snow here this season.  We're doing well, though, and having fun.
Danielle is doing tons her usual creative art work.
Marie is becoming quite fluent in Japanese.and serves regularly as our interpreter!
Jim continues to get commendations at work.
Janet is now teaching so many English classes she doesn't need to work on base anymore.
Ogasawara-sensei helps the kids everyday with their homework and helps us get stuff done around town.
Snowball is continuing to be fun, but getting loud when she wants to go outside!
Anikin (a la Star Wars) is big and cuddley and escapes quickly when we aren't careful.
The latest addition is fish--we now have two tanks--guppies in Danielle's room and goldfish, and a black mollie (Darth Vadar) in the living room.  Just set up a 10 gallon tank for Marie with four huge black kabuto mushi--stag beetles the branch president caught and gave to the girls.   They died, but they are dried and displayed on my CPU.
On a personal note...
The kids are doing great at Kamikubo Shogakko (elementary school).  They have almost finished their second year and get good marks.  Their Japanese is amazing!  We're very proud of them!  Jim and I are plugging away, but aren't nearly as good as the kids!  I'm almost done with my Master's in Education.  A few classes and a paper to finish!  Hurray!
