The Dog/Cat and Captive Wild Animal Fur Trade in China
It Reads
Cats and dogs, many of which are stolen pets, are bred for their fur in China. And they are raised, transported, handled and then slaughtered, in the horrific and cruel manner . An estimated 2,000,000 dogs and cats are killed every year for the fur trade, mostly in the Far East, in countries such as China and the Philippines. A recent undercover investigation by the "Humane Society of the United States" in China, Thailand and the Philippines showed animals being slaughtered in the most cruel ways imaginable, with cats and dogs being beaten, strangled, drowned and stripped of their fur, often when they are still alive.
Dog and cat fur is used in a wide variety of products including fur coats and jackets, hats, gloves, decorative accessories, blankets. Many of the pelts are intentionally mislabelled as fictional creatures such as Asian Jackal and Gaewolf or are labelled simply as 'animal by-products'.
It is vital do something to stop it.

PROGRESS IN THE PHILIPPINES AGAINST DOG EATING
Your voice has had impact. Thank you to all of you who responded to our request in March 2006 to stand up against the resumption of dog eating in the Philippines. Good News from Animals Asia:
At the first inter-agency meeting on dog slaughter and trade, government representatives backed off of their initial support for legalising the dog meat trade, and passed a resolution stating that "the commercialisation of dog meat including dog slaughter is not acceptable". However, although this is a wonderful first step the fight is not over, our Philippine partners, the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), remain cautiously optimistic.
AGAINST DOG MEAT TRADE IN THE PHILIPPINES
The Philippines is one of the few Asian countries where progressive laws exist to protect animals from cruelty and abuse, including the implementation of a law in 1998 forbidding the eating of dog meat. This law is now seriously under threat: there is a proposal to legalise the dog meat trade in Baguio province.
Please send an email to Philippine Embassies asking to relay your concerns about the dog meat trade to the Philippines government.
