Materials: 1 x 1 inch squares of brown, red & green tissue paper; glue; a ready-made apple pattern drawn on green construction paper. (This may be varied to yellow or green, too). Take the tissue paper squares and wrap around the end of the pencil. Dip the eraser/tissue paper in glue and place it on the paper as shown. Very cute 3D apples to display in the hall. This came from our First Grade teacher and it was so cute I had to take a picture of it.
Materials needed: white 11 x 14 paper (or any size will do); an apple template made out of poster board (one for each student); green, yellow & red markers; a pencil; and green construction paper.
Procedure: Take the apple template and trace it with a pencil all over the white paper as shown. Then take the red, green, & yellow markers and make "back & forth" strokes as shown on each apple that they traced. Glue white paper onto green paper. This is also our First Grade Teacher's project that I took a picture of.
"Stained Glass" Apples - Materials needed: yellow, green & red 1" tissue paper; clear contact paper; an apple pattern ran off on construction paper; green construction paper;
Procedure: Cut out the middle of an apple from red, yellow or green construction paper and lay it on a piece of clear contact paper. Students lay down pieces of the red, yellow and/or green tissue paper squares on to the contact paper. Viola-it sticks! Add a stem and a leaf from green construction paper. As you can see these are perfect to hang in your windows in September.
Apple Quilt - For the apples students make fists, dip in red or yellow paint, and then stamp their fist down in a circular motion. They took their other finger and dipped it in green paint for the stem. We glued red and yellow pre-cut sqaures (from the ellison machine) and glued it down to a square piece of paper. They had to make an AB pattern. I used green bulletin board paper with red, yellow and green squares, yes squares on triangles-it's easier to glue on. A student will get to take this home when unit is over.
Another 3-D Apple - Paint paper plates. Dip and glue 1 x 1 inch tissue paper squares by wrapping it around the eraser and dabbing it in the center of the paper plate. Start in the middle and work your way out. Add a brown stem and green leaf. We hung those all around the room.
Here is my MATH CENTER IDEA on apples. I glued down apples on white poster board. Students had to make that pattern with their unifix cubes.
