Farm Sounds
Tune:  "Wheels on the Bus"

The cow in the barn goes moo, moo, moo,
moo, moo, moo,
moo, moo, moo,
The cow in the barn goes moo, moo, moo,
All around the Farm.

The pig in the pen goes oink, oink, oink . . .
The hens in the coop go cluck, cluck, cluck . .
The lambs on the hill go baa, baa, baa . . .
The ducks on the pond go quack, quack, quack . . .
The horses in the stall go neigh, neigh, neigh . . .
The goats in the field go  . . .

I Like Baby Animals
Tune:  "London Bridge"

I like baby animals,
Animals, animals,
I like baby animals,
I'll name some for you.
Kittens, puppies, chicks and foals,
Chicks and foals, chicks and foals.
Kittens, puppies, chicks and foals,
I can name some more.
Goslings, ducklings, lambs and calves,
Lambs and calves, lambs and calves,
Goslings, ducklings, lambs and calves,
I like baby animals.

Ten Little Pigs
Tune:  Five Little Ducks Went Out to Play"

Ten little pigs rolled in the mud-
Squishy, squashy, felt so good.
The farmer took one piggy out,
"Oink, Oink, Oink," the pig did shout!

Continue with nine, eight, seven so forth, then . . .

No little pigs rolled in the mud.
They all looked so clean and good.
The famer turned his back and then,
Those pigs rolled in the mud again!

To The Farm
Tune:  Twinkle, Twinkle

Chicken, Kittens piglets too,
Donkey, horses, cows that moo,
Fish that swim down in the pond,
Ducklings quacking all day long
All these things you can see
If you go to the Farm with me!

Shovels, Rakes & Even Hoes
Tune:  "Twinkle, Twinkle"

Shovels, rakes and even hoes
Help the farmer as he sows.
First, he digs into the ground;
Then he plants some seeds around.
Shovels, rakes, and even hoes
Help the farmer as he sows.

Take Me Out To The Barnyard
Tune:  "Take Me Out To The Ball Game"

Take me out to the barnyard
Take me out there right now
Show me the cows, pigs and horses too.
I hear an oink and a neigh and a moo
There are chickens laying their eggs
If they don't lay, its a shame
Oh, its one, two, three eggs today,
And I'm glad I came.

If I Were A Farmer
(Children Use Motions Here)

Oh, if I were a farmer, a farmer, a farmer,
Oh, if I were a farmer, what would I do?
I would milk the cows each morning
Each morning, each morning
I would milk the cows each morning, that's what I'd do.
Continue using:
I would feed the baby chickens
I would gather eggs for breakfast.

Over In the Barnyard
Tune:  "Down By The Station"

Over in the barnyard
Early in the morning,
See the yellow chickies
Standing in a row.
See the busy farmer
Giving them breakfast
Cheep, cheep, cheep, cheep.
Off they go.
Substitute other barnyard animals.

Farm Chores
"Sing the following song while vigorously acting out jobs one might need to do while working on a farm:"

This is the way we mow the hay
This is the way we  mow the hay
So early in the morning.

feed the chicks . . .
sow the seeds . . .
pull the weeds . . .
hoe the field . . .
milk the cow . . .

Baa, Baa Black Sheep

Baa baa black sheep
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir
Three bags full.
One for the master
One for the dame
One for the little boy who lives down the lane

Baa baa white sheep
Have you any wool?

Continue changing colors . . .

Five Brown Rabbits
(Kids love role playing this)

Five brown rabbits sitting in the garden
Munching on carrots all day.
One rabbit says, "I think I hear the farmer"
And he hippity-hopped away.
Four brown rabbits . . . .
three . . .
two . . .
one . . .
No . . .

Farmer Brown working in his garden,
Planting carrots all day.
he says, "I thought I saw some rabbits,
I wish they would come and play."

Five Little Ducks

Five little ducks went out one day
over the hill and far away
mother ducks said, "Quack, quack, quack,
but only four little ducks came back.

Four little ducks went out one day . . .
Three . . .
Two . . .
One . . .

Mother duck went out one day
over the hill and far away
mother duck said, "Quack, quack, quack"
and all of the five little ducks came back!

This page was designed for a K-1 integrated unit on the study of Farms and their animals.   I hope you find useful ideas to help you in your classroom.
Here we are "Sheering Sheep".  We have a balloon for each child and put shaving cream all over it.  Then they take a tongue depresser and "sheer" their sheep.  Make sure you do this outside and they they have their paint shirts on.  As you can see, it is a Very Messy activity~but they love it!
Today was PIG Day.  Everything revolved around Pigs.  We made the masks the day before.  You need to hot glue on styrofoam cups on a white paper plate and cut out the eyes prior to painting.  Paint the plates pink including the snouts.  Let dry overnight.  Punch holes on each side and add a string.  Let children using markers to make a math and nostril holes.  Glue or staple on ears.

We read the story of the Three Little Pigs and acted it out.  We also read The True Story of the Three Little Pigs & The Three Wolves and the Big Bad Pig.  We did a venn diagram of the stories.  We also enjoyed hearing the story Pigsty.  We discussed pig facts, visited a pig farm when we got back we wrote a group experience story about our trip to the farm.  We hung it out in the hall and called it "Our Pig Tail" and added little pig tails out to the side of it.  In Math, we actually played the game "Pig" as a whole group.  It's really fun.  E-mail me if you have never heard of this game.
Centers

Science Center - Milking the Cow & Making Butter.  I used a carpenters 2x4 saw horse.  My husband screwed on a bucket (turned sideways).  He cut two holes in the bottom of the bucket to set the "utters" in it.  I used a rubber medical glove for the "utters".  I filled it up with water & tid it off & set it in there.
"Making Butter"  - Give each child a babyfood jar.  Fill 1/3 up with heavy cream.  Add a marble to make it set faster.  Children shake for approximately 10 minutes.  Viola!  You have butter & yes, it is edible.
Math Center

Tangram Farm Animals.
This is our Farm Mural.  These are all art projects from TLC.  (I painted the background and the students made the pigs, cows and horses)
