February Ideas

"Predictable Chart for the Week"

At the end of the week we always make a class book of their chart.  See a page below.
This is Terri Fox's the Other Kindergarten Teacher's Bulletin Board for February--Very Cute!
Valentine Animals
(If you were wondering  . . . I laminated them)
Wreath without a child's picture in it or without it.  Great for doors.  ABC pattern of hearts glued on a paper plate with middle cut out.  A raffia bow added & the words "I Love You" on the bow.
Wreath with your student's picture in the middle.  Directions below on next picture.
This was so cute that I made up a page for students to take home to their parents.  This is from the predictable chart from above.    We also have a class book of this, too.  Students write their own sentence for the class book.  I have it typed for their parents, however.
My February Bulletin Board.  I used an overhead projector & stood a child next to the wall.  I had a piece of red paper on the wall & drew around their shadow.  I cut & glued onto blue paper.  A great keepsake for parents.
I gave them lots of different kinds of hearts.  I showed them how to fan the legs & arms to make heart boys & girls.  I let them get as creative as they liked.  Some added hair & ears & heart eyes, etc.,   We hung these all around our room.  They are very proud of them.
Stained Glass Hearts
I hope the three pictures show enough explanation of how to do it..
It was "V" week in Kindergarten.  Students made "Valentines in a vase"  You could also put violet valentines in a vase.  It was their choice.
Graph - You could put hearts with their names on it, stickies, or their picures on this.  The concept here should be self-explanatory.
This is my Valentine Thematic Unit Math Center.  I got this from the book - Math Through the Alphabet by:  Sue Kerr.  I get a lot of my Math Centers from her.  This is a book you must purchase!

Below is my Valentine Thematic Unit Science Center.  I got this from the book - Science Through The Alphabet by Sue Kerr.  This is also a must to have!  A lot of people have requested these.  They are  not at Amazon.com   You can e-mail the author direct at kerrific@charter.net or skerr@stclair.k12.il.us if you want to purchase her books.

This is our First Grade Teacher's Bulletin Board, Patty Stone.  Her caption was "Love Comes In All Colors".  She used water color paints for this.

Valentine Quilt- We did an ABB Pattern with squares.  Then they cut out a picture of themselves and put it in a heart.
Miss Range's 2nd Grade Class did these.  You trace approximately five hearts onto a paper.  Then run a black marker through the hearts from tip to bottom.  Color each section a different color.  Mount on construction paper.
These George Washington's were so cute I just had to take a picture of them and add it to my web page.  These were also done by Miss Range's 2nd Grade Class.  These look very easy to do, too.
Valentine Mailboxes  - I covered a cereal box with white paper, took a picture of the kids with a digital camera.  Print picture & cut out background.  Make arms & hands out of construction paper.  I had various heart cut outs & let the students decorate their own boxes.  I had little titles printed out to glue on the heart that their "hands" are holding.  It says, "Rachel's Kindergarten Valentines".  These are VERY cute.  Parents loved them.  It looks like she's a ventriliquist.  In the picture below you can see how I attached their valentine mailboxes on to their chairs by using rubberbands.
Valentine Windsocks - We took white construction paper and formed cylinders & stapled.  Students added hearts & crepe paper.  We hung them in our room

Valentine Songs & Finger Plays

I'm A Little Valentine
(Tune:  I'm A Little Teapot)

I'm a little Valentine,
Red and white.
With ribbons and lace,
I'm a beautiful sight,
I can say "I Love You",
On Valentines Day.
Just put me in an envelope,
and give me away.

The Love Bug

It begins with a grin (smile broadly)
It turns into a giggle (put both hands on mouth and giggle)
You start to laugh (throw head back and laugh out loud)
your legs start to wiggle (put feet in the air and shake)
You look all around for someone to hug (move eyes back & forth)
You've caught the love bug (hug another child or yourself)
ACHOO!!

There's a Big Red Heart
(Tune:  It's a Small World)

There's a big red heart down inside of me,
(Draw heart shape in air, then point to chest)
There's a big red heart no one else can see
(Cover eyes with hands)
It is filled to the brim with love from within,
(spread arms)
And now I give it to you.
(Point to another person)

HEART
(Tune:  Bingo)

To show you like your special friend,
Just give them each a heart,
H-E-A-R-T,
H-E-A-R-T,
H-E-A-R-T
Each heart says I like you.

Ten Pretty Valentines
(Tune:  Ten Little Indians)

One pretty, two pretty, three pretty valentines,
Four pretty, five pretty valentines, six pretty valentines;
Seven pretty, eight pretty, nine pretty valentines;
Ten pretty valentines!
