If God had not been on our side,
What then, O Israel?

1. If God had not been on our side
When enemies attacked,
They would have swallowed us alive
Out of their furious rage;
2. The floods would have swept us away,
They would have covered us.
O thank the Lord, who has not let
Our foes come and destroy!
3. We have escaped like birds who break
Free from the hunter's snare.
Our help is from the Lord our God,
Who made the heav'n and earth.
