PSALM 146 METER: SM (66 86) SUGGESTED TUNE: ST. THOMAS (WILLIAMS) This is the same meter as the hymn "I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord") 1. O praise the Lord, my soul! I'll praise long as I live; I will sing praises to my God As long as I have breath. 2. Do not rely on kings, On humans, who can't help; For when they die they turn to dust, And their plans are no more. 3. Happy the one whose help Is found in Jacob's God, Whose hope is in the Lord our God Who made the heav'n and earth, 4. The sea and all the life That in creation dwells. Forever is his faithfulness; Just is he to th' oppressed. 5. He feeds the hungry ones; He sets the pris'ners free; He makes the blind to see again, The fallen he lifts up. 6. God loves the righteous ones, For sojourners he cares, Widows and orphans he upholds, But brings the wicked down. 7. Forever shall God reign, Your God, Jerusalem, Shall reign to generations all. His holy name be praised! Reprinted by permission of the publisher from Sing the Psalms! by Dale A. Schoening. Copyright 1988 Dale A. Schoening. |
