his ca. 1863 muster roll was copied from the 'Bailey Barton Muster Roll Book of Pickens
District, South Carolina' located at the Pickens County Library in Easley, South Carolina by your Webmaster. No publishing information was given. A source for the copies was not given.
The copy indicates that this was the Muster Roll for the 5th Regiment, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Beat, Pea Ridge area of Pickens District, South Carolina. Jas. M. [James Madison] Murphree, number 19 on the list, was age 47 [b. 5 Aug 1816], a farmer, dark complexion, blue eyes, light hair, height 5' 9" and was "referred to the Surgeon" [to determine suitability for active military duty.] It appears that the men signed their own name on the list as this signature of James Madison Murphree matches his signature on other documents that he signed.
James Madison Murphree was the son of William Murphree, who was the son of Moses Murphree, the son of Daniel I.
