he Murphree Genealogical Association (MGA) was organized in October, 1963. The MGA is a genealogical

society dedicated to furthering research on the ancestry and descendants of Daniel Murphree (ca 1715-1771) and his wife Sarah. Our purpose is preserving the Murphree heritage, sharing information, and promoting fellowship among families who share a common ancestry. Membership is open, not only to Murphree cousins, but to anyone interested in researching their connections to this family line.

Our biennial MGA conventions are a mainstay of the society and are greatly anticipated by all members. The 2007 convention will be held July 27 and 28 in Houston, Texas. The events always feature great Irish feasts, socializing, auctions and well planned, fun events. A major attraction at the conventions is the availability of the MGA computer database of the descendants of Daniel and Sarah Murphree as well as hard copy source materials. These research materials will be available at the convention, along with computers to access the data, make backup copies for personal use, and enter new contributions from active researchers. Photocopy machines will be available for copying family group sheets and other source materials.

The association publishes the Murphree Quarterly, a newsletter that keeps members up to date by posting coming events while publishing interesting articles related to Murphree ancestry. Genealogy research articles are contributed by MGA members and other Murphree historians. Material may vary but in addition to submitted articles, a particular issue may contain queries, Bible records, old letters, obituaries, births, in short - anything related to discovering and sharing Murphree heritage. This newsletter has been in continuous publication since Bill R. Linder published the first issue on 26 August 1963 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

We always extend a warm Irish welcome to new members. The more members we have, the more funds are made available to improve our newsletter, to undertake new research projects, and to make research findings more readily available to members. Why not encourage your Murphree cousins to join in the fun? Membership applications can be submitted on-line or by snail mail by completing the attached application form and following the instructions posted there.
