Just a little bit about Gary Farley:
A caring and dedicated cop, Gary was an easygoing, friendly person with a real sense of humor. A graduate of MacArthur High School, Gary and his wife lived in Levittown with their son and daughter, He was a member of the 7th Precinct from January 1987 until his death In the line of duty on March 7, 1993. The tragedy of Gary's death was felt throughout the whole Department. In an effort to ensure that he would be remembered, members of the Nassau Police Running Club elected to sponsor an annual 5-K Memorial run In his name. The P.O. Gary Farley Memorial 5-K Run Is now In Its 15th proud year. Gary's name and sacrifice are known by thousands of people who may never have been aware of it had the run never been realized. We feel it Is a fitting tribute to the man as we knew him and thank you for participating.

Date of Death: March 7, 1993, Age 36
On Friday March 5, 1993 at 8:30 p.m., Officer Farley was present at 150 Division Avenue, Massapequa, New York in response to a complaint of a violent mental aided case. While attempting to subdue the aided person Officer Farley was struck in the chest by the subject. Following the altercation, Officer Farley complained to the other Officers that he had pains in his hand, arm, and shoulder and did not feel well. At 8:30 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 1993 Officer Farley collapsed. He was transported to N.C.M.C., where he was placed on a respirator. He was pronounced dead at 3:00 a.m. Sunday, March 7, 1993.
