Members bowl at the greens - located just north of Sheep Meadow in Central Park, near the West 69th Street pedestrian entrance. Exciting club games take place on Saturdays (1pm) and Sundays (1:30pm) throughout the May - October season. Club games on Tuesdays and Thursdays begin at 1pm. On other days, members can arrange their own starting times.
For more information about the game go to The Sport link to the left.
Our policy of offering FREE LESSONS to prospective bowlers has been very successful over the years. We give lessons whenever the greens are open. We have bowls for students to use during their lessons. The student-bowler needs only a desire to learn and a pair of smooth-soled shoes (most styles of sneakers are acceptable, as long as they don't have exaggerated treads that will damage the grass).
New members may use club bowls until they determine their correct size and are ready to purchase a new set (cost: about $265).
All of us in the New York Lawn Bowling Club are social bowlers who enjoy getting together in harmony and good fellowship to enjoy our common interest - the great sport of lawn bowls. Those of us who enjoy intense competition in addition to the camaraderie find ample opportunities at our club tournaments and the out-of-town events that are sponsored by our national organization, the United States Lawn Bowls Association.

Dear Ms. Gargiulo,
The NYLBC records show that your grandfather, James Smillie, was a member from 1945 through 1948. He was a member of the Games Committee in 1946. In that same year, the Rinks (4 players) Team he played on in NYLBC's 'Gala Day' held on June 16th won first place. Also he came in 2nd place in the 1946 'Labor Day Doubles'. On June 1, 1948 his team won first place in the NYLBC Triples Tournament - 1st prize was $15! There is no indication that he was ever President of the Club.
Attached is a photo taken in summer of 1948 at the New York Lawn Bowling Club.
On the back is written - "Foreground L to R - Kammerer, Smith, MacCallum, Saier, McKendrick, Smillie". Background L to R - Hendrie, Park, Campbell.
All the best.
