January 18, 1957 - August 7, 1978

During his time at OPHS, he ran Track and Cross-Country.  After graduating in June, 1975, he joined the United States Marine Corps.  There he rapidly advanced until his discharge in 1978.  He first came home to Orange Park and then left to  live with our older brother, John, who was stationed in Colorado.   Steven died 2 months later.  I know he had some really close friends from school that never knew he died, until after the funeral.  If any of those friends would like to contact me about Steven,  I will gladly speak with any one..CATBEJAHAN@aol.com.  Steven Moore was funny, kind and caring and at times very crazy!  When I was in 9th grade Spanish, he was taking Russian.  One day he decided to skip his class and come to mine, well we had a substitute that day and also a test.  He took the test and all of his answers were in Russian.  It was funny when the tests were handed back and the teacher could not figure out what the remaining one was.  Best of all, Steven was my big brother, someone who I looked up to and loved very much.  He is missed, but we know he is at peace now.

My mom was killed in a tragic car accident in Middleburg, Florida on 1/16/94.  My mom married Kenneth Bolman in May of 1978 in Orange Park.  They stayed married until the day he lost his life due to a stroke on 2/26/87.  He was in a coma for a couple of days until he became brain dead.  He never suffered.  He was a hard worker and a great father to me and my sister.  I was only eight when I lost him, but the memories I have will last forever.   My mom worked for the Publix deli in Orange Park.  We moved out to Middleburg after my dad passed.  My mom had a great sense of humor, as long as you didn't get on her bad side.  She loved me and my sister very much, and so did my father.  My mom was very laid back.  She coached softball for many years and was involved with all the sports my sister and I played.  Losing my mother has brought me great sadness to this day.   If you have any memories or funny stories of my mom, Patricia Cobb, or my dad, Kenneth Bolman, please e-mail me at heimlich05@aol.com. Let me know how she was at school because she was a great mom.  Thanks.

WALTER "LESLIE" BEDDARD
May 1958 - October 1992. He was involved in the Garden, Drama and Forensics clubs and was President of the Art Club.
I met Leslie in art class in 1973.  Not only did we share the same name but also a twisted sense of humor and the same amusement of observing people.  He taught art at Mayport Junior High School and the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts.  Leslie died in 1992 of AIDS.  He fought hard but unfortunately the drugs that are available now were not then.  He was a great friend and I will always miss him.

JAYNE MARIE LEEBRICK
My sister, Jayne, attended OPHS from 1971 to 1976.  She dropped out towards the end of her senior year to marry Mike Haltiwager.  She was well-liked and a great student.  (She did much better in school than I did, I graduated in 1971).  She had a son, Michael Haltiwager, Jr. who still lives in the area and graduated from OPHS.  Jayne moved to Los Angeles to become Marketing Manager for ALLMETAL.  She loved to travel, her family, friends and LIFE!  She was a wonderful mom, sister and aunt until she was murdered in 1991. There has been a movie
(EVERY WOMAN'S DREAM) and a book (DEADLY PRETENDER) written about my sister's brutal murder.  We continue to miss her beautiful smile and personality every day.

Car Accident
Ron was a very good friend and we had lots of great times water skiing. Ron was hospitalized for quite some time until his death.  I last saw Ron when I was home on leave from Army Boot Camp.  He invited me to meet him the next day but I had to head back to the Army.  I wish I could have spent one more day with him.

Ron and I spent many years together.  We went through good times and bad.  We were only going to go out to his Senior Prom, but it ended with us falling in love and staying together for over 4 years.  His sister Faye Irvin was very special to me as well.  She was killed in a car accident in 1984, the same year Ron died after being hospitalized since his car accident in 1981.  I am still very close to Ron and Faye's family today,

KENT MATTHEWS
Kent died of Cancer
October 25, 1959  -  March 3, 1992

I met Ken on the first day of our ninth grade year at OPHS.  He and his family had just moved to Florida from up north.  We became instant good friends and remained so until he passed away.  Ken was one of the most talented people I have ever known.  He could draw, paint, write, act and was a phenomenal dancer.  After college, he went on to perform in the world renowned Houston Ballet.  High school is an amazing time -  little do we realize what life really has in store for us.   I feel so blessed to have known Kenny and to have been able to call him my good friend.  He was a great guy and I miss him dearly.

I graduated from OPHS in 1978 and lived on Canis Drive a long time ago.  When I was a kid,   Steve Moore had a green '56 Chevy and he ran with a guy named James Harrington who lived by S. Bryan Jennings school who had a black and white '55 Chevy.  They knew I was a car nut and were always nice to me and would let me ride around with them sometimes.  I never forgot that.  I now have a '55 Chevy  and saw Cathy's Memorial for her brother about Steve on the OPHS website.  He will not be forgotten by me because of his kindness.  God Bless You and Yours and Thank You Steve.
