KEVIN BAKER
Great guy, always seen around town with his best friend, Bill Bowen.  He was extremely smart and talented, serving as president of the Latin Club (Junior Classical League), always leading us into the state forums in his toga.  He was also in Latin Honor Society, ASG, NHS, Interclub Council (ICC), Math Club and Science Club.
Kevin went to college at several different places, Georgia Tech being the one I remember most.  And Kevin loved Mustangs, several of which he wrecked during high school!  The thing I remember most about Kevin was on the night of his graduation.  We took off after the ceremony for Anastasia Island for the great graduation party and bonfires that occurred there every year on that night.  We were in his Mustang II trying to find St. Augustine via Green Cove Springs and SR 16.  But we kept making wrong turns and ended up in Palatka hours later.  So, we just partied there and drove the next morning!  Kevin could find something good in any situation.  Supposedly, he was involved in a robbery/kidnapping attempt on one of his employees at a grocery store in OP where he was a manager. He was trying to save the female employee who the guy had out in the parking lot.  In doing so, he was shot and killed.  I will miss him - always remembering him dressed up in a leisure suit when he escorted me to my 9th grade formal!

SCOTT GOUGLER
Just a sweetheart, kind and compassionate
Kim was a wonderful friend, a wrestling cheerleader with me in her junior year.  She was such a beautiful person, with a heart of gold and a great tan to match (we all envied her tan).  And she had brains to go with her beauty, being a member of the NHS and the Math Club with me!  For Christmas, she gave personalized stockings to each of us cheerleaders.  I still have it to remember her always.  It was a sad loss for OPHS when she died.  She had such great potential.
FAYE IRVIN
Died late December 1984.  Faye was a photographer and was struck by a car on a service road off Arlington Expressway while taking pictures.  Many friends turned out for her funeral and I remember how we all cried and cried.  I still think about her often.  My most vivid memory of Faye took place on the first day of school our senior year.  I remember her beautiful smile and hug as we exclaimed, "Seniors!  We're finally here!"

I was good friends with Allen.  I dated his best friend for a couple of years.  I remember him always showing up at my front door after he'd pulled another stupid stunt over a girl.  I always did love those eyes of his and that gorgeous blonde hair!  He sure knew how to pull some stunts!  All these years I've thought of him and Steve Hamiltong running the streets and raising h*ll.  Allen always had a quick mouth and a smart come-back.  I hate that he's gone.  I've always looked forward to returning and catching up with him.  Love you my friend and I'll see you again one day.

MICHAEL R. ERGLE
Mike died suddenly on March 2, 1999.  He has a twin brother who graduated in 1981, a sister who graduated in 1980 and myself.  We were overseas when Mike died and in the middle of adopting a 6-year old Korean orphan.  I could not return for the Memorial service, or the adoption would not have been allowed to continue.  Our daughter did not speak English at the time and she would never have understood why I left her. One of the toughest decisions I ever made was not attending the service for my wonderful brother.  So, there was a Memorial Service....Mike was cremated...ashes blown to the sea...Here one day...gone the next.  Gone, but not forgotten.  His parents, family and friends miss him tremendously. He was precious to all.

MIKE MCKEE
Mike McKee was a good friend.  I hung out with Mike and a group of Park West rowdies the Summer before 9th grade.  On and off we spent a good deal of time together throughout high school.  Looking back, it is amazing that any of us lived to adulthood.  We were reckless and irresponsible, loving every minute of it.  We pushed boundaries, were rebellious, foolish and fun-loving.  Together we joined the 9th grade football team, then, soon after, quit the team together.  It was that act that forever changed us from Jocks to Freaks.   We simply had too much mischief to accomplish to be weighed down with football practice. We shared homerooms and many classes during our 'internment' at Orange Park.  Mike, you are missed.  Thank you for letting me use your home address to get back into Orange Park for my senior year.  Thanks for the memories of the huge catfish we caught and manatees we swam with at Homosassa Springs.

LINDA SUE SMITH
US ARMY VETERAN
Passed away September 20, 2001

I was touched by her will to attend our reunion in August, 2001 and see her class.
I was looking to find alumni information on Kevin but found him under the Memorial Section instead.  Kevin and I remained friends and exchanged letters after I moved and when he started school at GA Tech, we went to football games together.  He drove my parents nuts by staying at our house 'til God knows when, but they loved him too.  Just last week, as my kids and I were going past Ga Tech and a Mustang II passed by, I told them of Kevin.  He was a great friend and we lost touch after so many years.  Kevin, you will be missed and thanks for all the great times!

Mark K. Kilgore, 39, died November10, 2001 at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial.   He was a deputy sheriff for Seminole County and a special agent for the FBI.  Born in Frederick, MD, he moved to Florida in 1978 from Indiana.  He was involved with Pony League Baseball, in Deltona, and enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Helen,  and seven year old son, Matthew.
I met Scott in the summer of 1995 and was blessed with his love and support until his death, due to cancer in May of 2001.  I will always miss his adventurous spirit and smile.  I appreciate his friends from the class of 1982 who took the time to call him or stop by during his illness.  It was funny that you all had the same stories of Drs. Lake and OPHS!  I also wanted to say thanks to John Bowers and Joe Stelcheck who extend their friendship still today.

When I think of high school, I think of Scott.  Scott was a very, very dear friend to me.  When I was feeling down, he would always make me smile.  Not only was Scott funny, he was a pretty cute guy.  I never looked at Scott as boyfriend material but when I look back on those days he was "boyfriend material" all the way.  He was considerate, loving and compassionate.  What more could a girl want?  I lost touch with Scott a few years after high school but the times we shared never left me.  I couldn't have made it through those teenage years without Scott and John,  I never really got a chance to say goodbye to Scott but while at the 20 year reunion I took that special quiet time to say goodbye.  Scott, good-bye to a dear friend.  Save me a spot in heaven.
