He played baseball in the Orange Park Athletic Association , and enjoyed Russian Literature and pick-up basketball.  He completed his sophomore year last spring at UF, where he was majoring in English.  He planned on becoming a writer or an English teacher.  He took the course, African Experience, at UF earlier this summer.  After some Park Cafe' employees quit, Matthew was invited to work at the business for the rest of the summer.  He had worked there for about a month before his accident.  Matthew is survived by his parents, grandparents and brothers, Andrew (21) and Paul (23).

CHAD BENNETT
Died June 20, 2002
Chad Eric Bennett, 23, passed away on June 20, 2002, in Jacksonville, FL.  He was killed in a car accident, on a rainy night.  He was trying to avoid hitting another car, swerved, and went off the road.  Chad was born in Orange Park, FL, was employed by CSX and was a 1998 graduate of Orange Park High School.

Chad was my brother's best friend and was like a brother to me.  He had a heart of gold.  He was one of those rare kinds you meet--very genuine and kind-hearted.  He had a smile worth a million bucks.  He had a strong faith in God and a love for trains.  He was about to become a train engineer for CSX at the time he was killed.  His loss has been very devastating for all of us who knew and loved him.  His funeral was one of the saddest I've ever been to.  Chad keeps making his presence known by little "signs" that he gives to people.  So I know he is looking down on us, still with that winning smile, praying for us and guiding us every step of the way.
