Extreme Mustang Makeover Competitors
Otter B Good & Dixie LaFountain
100 Competitors, 100 Wild Mustangs, 100 Days
Dixie LaFountain has been chosen as one in one hundred trainers to compete in the Extreme Mustang Makeover Challenge put on by the Mustang Heritage Foundation. There were 220 applicants, and now 100 competitors will take their mustang from completely wild to saddle broke in a little over 100 days.
Dixie picked up a beautiful three year old dark bay mustang gelding on June 6, 2007 at the Palomino Valley holding facility in Nevada. She quickly dubbed his name as Otter B Good and so far, he is living up to his name. Otter has a very soft eye, a willing nature, and a trusting attitude toward humans. He has a very compact, stout body, short back, nice legs, and a gorgeous face.
Otter and Dixie will be working together up until September 17th when they leave for the September 22nd competition in Fort Worth, Texas where they will be judged on over-all condition of the horse, ground work, and a "Horse Course" which is very similar to a trail class. There they may be awarded up to $25,000 dollars in prizes.
The most exciting part of this challenge for Dixie is taking a wild mustang and proving to the equestrian world how wonderful a mustang can be and how they can exceed in the "domestic" world. She hopes to show the tractability, smarts, savvy, and ability that the wild horses have. In this, she hopes that more people will become involved in the adoption of mustangs.
