4. Medieval European Art
During this unit we research the characteristics of Medieval art and then create our own Gothic-styled figure sculpture from paper mache.  The sculptures are about people who have influenced us positively and strongly in our lives.  The sculptures are on display in the Parker lobby and will be coming home soon.

4. Renaissance Art
During this unit we learn about the change in art styles that occured with the onset of the Renaissance.  Students see classic Renaissance drawings and learn about the artwork of important artists of the period including Michelangelo and Leonardo DaVinci. They learn about the style differences between the Italian Renaissance and the Northern Renaissance, and compare and contrast the drawing process used by each group of artists.  Studio projects include an observational drawing study of  hands, a still life sketch using the Durer grid, and a more complex drawing using linear perspective.  Throughout this unit students are encouraged to use the drawing process to learn about what their subject really looks like, noticing accurate proportions, recording observed shape, and working with a more natural style.  Stay tuned for examples from class!

Projects Include:
Observed Hand Compositions (Italian Renaissance)Drawing Using a Durer Grid (Northern Renaissance)

Linear Perspective: One and Two Point
