Important Update Information - Fall 07 program
A meeting with management and staff at the GMU Aquatic Center September 5th has yielded important information for the 07-08 season...specifically the start of the program this fall. Please make sure you read and understand these new policies!
We will be starting Monday September 10th as previously stated in email...but with stipulations! Divers that are currently scheduled and have been notified of their schedule, and have sent in all paperwork and fees will be able to start. Divers in the Tryout program are on a holding pattern at the moment...please stand by as we hope to get this class up and running as soon as possible. All divers must be fully dressed, with shoes on their feet to enter and exit the facility...we are still under construction!
Important new stuff...No drop off or pick up in front of the Aquatic Center...violation of this new policy will result in a $25 fine to the club per incident...which in turn will result in a $50 fine to the divers family. The staff at the Aquatic Center has been wrestling with this problem for years and have decided the only way to completely stop cars from parking in front of the Aquatic Center is to fine. The pull-in entrance at the front of the facility is to be used for Emergency use only...pulling into the front of the Aquatic Center, or stopping on the road in front of the facility will result in a fine to the club...this fine will be doubled and passed along to the family. Further, multiple fines will result in dismissal from PDC...no exceptions. The solution is to park in Lot 'C' or Lot 'A'...or, if you want to drop off/pick up, you may drive up and around the parking structure across the street from the pool...it is a one way street...near the end of the loop you may pull over to the right and wait. Another possibility to escort divers to the facility is to park in the visitor entrance of Sandy Creek Parking structure (across the street from the pool)...escort your diver to the facility and then return...we are being told that the first 20 minutes of parking is free of charge. Management is to have a crossing guard work in front of the building at the pedestrian crossing to assist children crossing Patriot Circle.
Another very important policy to start the season...no spectators will be permitted in the facility during practice to start the fall season...this is temporary but may last a month or two...no parents, no siblings, no friends. Parents may escort young divers to the facility, to the locker room area...once the divers are with coaches they must exit the facility.
The facility is still under construction and management does not want any more persons in the building than necessary until the facility is open to the public. Currently, the facility is closed to GMU students, staff and public...they are only opening for PDC and the swim clubs...and only the athletes and coaches. Divers may not wander in other parts of the building...come in through the front door, head downstairs to the locker room area and the diving well...wandering in other parts of the facility will result in permanent dismissal from the Aquatic Center (facility policy) and without refund (PDC policy).
This is a great deal of new stuff being thrown at us with little to no time to digest...but it is the only way we can start the program in September. If these policies (and others that will be discussed) do not work for you, please reconsider starting PDC in the fall. More information to come soon!
