Who am I?

Here's what I look like. I am 18. I started Homeschooling in 2nd grade, when my mother pulled me out of public school to travel in Mexico and the U.S for two months. When we got back, I hadn't missed a thing. That was it! We started Homeschooling.

At first we were formal, using textbooks for things like math. It stunk. Schooling formally at home is practically the same as public school - it's very boring.

Unschooling is about letting the kid decide what and how they want to learn. See more at the Philosophy page.

What do I study?

Here's What I'm Doing Now. After graduating from Unschooling Highschool, I wanted to continue it into college. So I created my own University, complete with a spiffy name. It's called O.R.I.O.N, which stands for the Outdoor Recreation Institute Of New England and Orion, my favorite constellation. It works out nicely.

I have a hard time making up my mind, so I'm currently studying outdoor recreation, environmental education, naturopathy, massage, culinary arts, and will probably add on to that soon. I also like carpentry, as you can see from the what I'm doing now link. In my spare time I've also built a 17 foot ocean kayak and a pair of snowshoes.

I work in the neighborhood doing landscaping and gardening as well as working on our farm. In the summer I work on Conservation trailwork crews with the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps. I've also worked for the Student Conservation Association in Montana.

When you have the large amount of free time that unschooling affords you, you can accomplish pretty much anything you want to do.
