Journal / Picture Page #5
Heather's House
June 16th

If you have good hot, dry weather, send it over! The high for the past few days has been in the 50's, and it has rained for 24 hours straight, then more rain off and on. If you think I'm going to put up siding in the rain, you're nuts. :-)

I have bought a new stove and brought it over to the house, however. The above is a factory picture of my Quadra Fire 2100 Millenium stove. The last stove was broken, and it is a better deal to buy a new stove than to fix the old one.

Instead of working on my house this weekend, I went rock climbing.

The picture is of me rappeling down our last climb of the day in Bolton, Vermont. Peter had won a prize package on the radio that included two days of guided climbing and instruction from Petra Cliffs, and free climbing gear from Climb High. We're getting our equipment soon...

Perhaps I'll become a professional rock climber now. :-)

Mom and I went garage saleing up in Northern Vermont, instead of our usual Montpelier-Barre route. By the end of the day we looked like the beverly hillbillies! The inside of the car was packed, and we had a huge table lashed upside down on the roof.

The above picture showcases my ecclectic taste. :-) I also bought a couple of end tables, a juicer, microwave that weighs 62 pounds (!!!), some cookbooks, a chair, a cool hanging lamp, and a cowgirl hat. I almost bought the cowgirl boots, but they fit a little funny. I guess I'll have to hold off of running out west to work on a ranch until I get some boots. :-)

I was in a destructive mood when I got back (I also needed the space) so I threw the old, crappy woodstove out the front door, and dismantled some scaffolding that had been hogging up the middle of the room. I'm thinking of turning the 400+ pound woodstove into a flower planter. Then I'll surround it in pink flamingos...

Woohooooooo, stairs!

Peter taught me how to make stairs today.

I now have a small front landing, the stair frames and supports. I'll pick up some 2x8's for the stair tread soon. What you see on the stairs right now are 2x6's, which are entirely too small.

I ripped out the door for kicks today. In reality, I'm going to flip it around and put some new moulding on it. While it's out, I'd like to sand off the hideous yellow paint. The white paint with ivy on the other side stays, however.
July 1st

Ok, so the picture above of foxgloves isn't a house  building picture, but aren't they pretty? They're at the house I'm working on to earn money, in order to build my house and go hiking.
July 1st

My spiffy stairs, completed. Next I'll build handrails. The stairs are a bit steep, but are perfect for me! I love to bound up and down them.

Extraneous steps annoy me.
July 7th

I found this picture while poking around the computer. Boy am I glad I'm not dealing with the floor joists anymore! I had to rip them up several times.

I'm getting ready to do it all over again in 2004, when I get home from hiking the Appalachian Trail. I'm going to add on a porch, greenhouse, photography/art studio, and a nice big woodshop. I need someplace to build my 30 foot sailboat. :-)
July 7th

Went to garage sales again. Managed to spend $37 at one sale. :-) I bought the placemats, real silver siverware, carved African animal napkin rings/napkins, more glass storage jars, a wok, a bunch of cookbooks and kitchen implements, leather camera case, nice wool pants, and a bunch more.

July 26th
This is me on the last day of an 11 day kayak trip. The black and brownish boat is mine. Built it myself!
It has a urethaned mahogany deck, with a medival dragon painted near the front hatch.
It's the reason why I haven't been working on the house. Too busy paddling! We did more than 20 miles one day. :-)
