The cognitive revolution began as a reaction to the reductionist approach the behaviourists explained and interpreted human learning. The proponents of cognitivism felt that the stiimulus-response model in explaining learning was to simplistic and narrow and hence they suggested that through introspection and well designed experimental procedures, it was able to study and explain the more complex mental processes such as language, thought, decision making and problem solving.
