Veterinary Medicine
In today's world, the art and science of medicine can't be practiced without the use of compounded drugs, both in human and animal medicine. Veterinary medicine is experiencing a major crisis due to the lack of an adequate number of FDA-approved animal drugs. In order to treat these animal patients, veterinarians must reach beyond the scope of available medicines.
Because there are so many animal species, with individual and unique features, that need medical treatment, creative and innovative methods to alter and accomodate the dosing requirements of sick animals must be devised. This practice of recommending or devising alternative dosage forms is standard practice at P.H. Medical Pharmacy. Flavoring is also an important part of preparing animal medications. We have used liver, chicken, tuna, marshmallow and even pina colada flavorings to ensure that animals can tolerate the medicine they need.
Our pharmacists are well-trained in the chemical background required for safe and effective compounding. We realize that compounding drugs for veterinary patients provides a unique opportunity and a
professional challenge. This recognition has allowed our pharmacy to become an integral member of the veterinary health care team.
