Hello Becky,

One of the things I enjoy is going up to your web site. I may even
drool more than Casey. Mark, the trainer, said he finally has
another dog smarter than the owner. That is a compliment, right...

Last week one of the police department dogs was demonstrating
how keen a nose he has for sniffing out drugs. It was really
impressive. After it was all over I asked if Casey could try because
(as I mentioned earlier to you) she loves to do "Search and Rescue"
type games. In fact, finding things is her favorite game. Mark asked
the officer to give her the scent of some 'pot'. In the work area
was placed a single dog kibble in each of the 10 cups, and in one of
those cups was 1/2 gram of pot. As Mark led her on her 15' lease
she quickly knocked over all ten cups and ate each kibble and
apparently totally ignoring the 'scent'. Casey looked back at Mark
for praise and another kibble for "what she thought" an excellent
job. Mark gave her the stare and started to walk over to the end
of the lease to point out her bad judgment. Before he got over to
her she immediately went over to the cup that had the pot and sat.
The group broke out in laughter and Mark commented if the
police ever need a dog for sniffing out dog kibble, the criminals best
be aware. I told the group that Casey's breeder informed me that
she would have a very high food drive. She does and she proofed
you right.

      Kind regards,  Neil

Hi Becky,

I hope everything is well with you and your family.  I wanted to send you an email to let you know Jazz and I have been accepted in King County Search Dogs as candidate members.  Although I’ve trained Jazz in trailing, we will be on the wilderness/airscent team.  I’ve been trying to get on the team for over a year.  They only open up membership approximately every two years and once membership is open they have a flood of people trying for a few positions so I’m extremely happy we made it on the team.  I’m hoping we’ll certify by the end of the summer or early fall.  Jazz also passed her Therapy Dog test!!!!  My crazy intense high-drive dog is going to be a Therapy Dog.  I get so many compliments on Jazz – how beautiful she is, how sweet she is, what amazing drive she as.  Honestly, they never end.  By the way, I ran into one of your dogs at the Washington State SAR Conference last May.  The woman is from Spokane and I believe you have a picture of her and her dog on your website.   Funny how I met her. . . . . . I never go out of my way to tell someone what a beautiful GSD they have.  However, I saw this dog about 30 feet away and was astounded at how beautiful it was.  I walked up to the woman and asked her about her dog.  She told me she got her from Vom Holtzberg
I still plan on getting a male dog from you; I’m just waiting for the right time.

I have a male from the 1st Dragon and Polly litter born Oct.5, 2003. He is an amazing puppy. He's passed his 1st of 3 puppy classes with flying colors. Even at such a young age, he's obedient in his sit, stay, down, stand commands and walks wonderfully on a lead. He's surprisingly gentle with children of all ages and loves meeting strangers. At around 5 months he already defends the house- but once cleared by me- he's on his back wanting to play with the new guest. Becky Alexander has been wonderfully helpful to me even before he was born and still to this day. Anyone interested in a puppy from this second litter, I welcome an email or phone call. I truly could not be happier nor more excited about the boy I have. David Pulito, DPulito@bbandt.com

Becky, Oh, my goodness, our little RAVAN, is absolutely perfect.
We are so happy with our Dragon/Katie pup that I can not begin
to tell you. Her temprement is absolutely solid. I bring her everywhere,
to work with me, to basketball games, to friends houses with loads of
doggies, and she is awesome. She is so sweet and kind, loves kitties, and just a fabulous dog in every way, both physically and mentally. The vet commented
on what a perfect pup she was, and that I was very fortunate to have such a beautiful dog. So THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

hi becky,
We have two all black shepherds from becky, 2and 1/2year old female Harlie, and a 16week old male Davidson. they are the most amazing dogs (of course aside from all the other dogs in these entries) you will ever meet. our fears of getting another dog were unfounded. the first week Harlie did get a little jealous (the "why should i share my humans?" we called it), but that passed very quickly. now she loves Davidson even more (if that is possible) than we do. he does everything like his older sister, and watching them two play is the best tv substitute we could find:) they are absolutely wonderful-and stunning- dogs and we can't ever thank you enough... zuzana and jason

Hi Becky,

An update on our boy Bern(pronounced Bairne,German for bear like). Dragon and Polly Puppy
At nine months he is the most loving affectionate boy ever. We have always
just had female dogs, so a huge male was a new experience for us. What
a love he is, he is so protective of us and can really read people who
come to our house.  We get compliments on his beauty every time we take
him out, people are so attracted to him. He is doing very well with his
puppy training, even tho he doesn't look much like a puppy to some
people. He likes to lead me around the neighborhood at times instead of
me leading him. He also loves the water, it is hilarious, on hot days
here in So.Calif, we take him out and turn on the hose, it is his
favorite play activity. He even has to run through the sprinklers in
the neighborhood on our walks. We enjoy him so much and have given your
name to so many people who have admired him. We will keep the pictures
coming and let you know about his progress.           Thanks Annelise.

Hi Becky,

Max is doing great and is the most wonderful companion I could ever hope for.  Not only is he intelligent and aggressive in learning, but his is extreamly healthy and his blood lines really show when it comes to looks and  his personality.   Being an ex-cop I know I have the "once in a life-time K-9 partner". who would have excelled in police work  . I used to sleep near a gun but now that Max sleeps near, I do not have the need anymore.

Everyone who sees Max falls in love with him and neither Linda or I hesitate to recommend " Vom holtzberg kennels" as a place to purchase their  life time prize .

Becky, I still can not express enough of my graditude to you for "causing to be" a most wonderful animal so that I may be blessed with truly a great joy.   I enjoyed viewing your site and you are to be commended .

Hello Becky!

I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know how Rocky is doing.  Seeing that he is coming up on his second birthday I thought that you might like to see him now!  Rocky (Polly-Faro) has turned out to be such a great dog with an excellent temperament and a high energy level.  He  enjoys his daily ball games and is always receiving the attention he craves from my wife and I.  At times he thinks that he is a 95 LB lap dog but we don't mind.

Attached you will find of a picture of him taken today in the backyard.  Again thank you for such a great dog and if you want you can post his picture on your photo album!

Hi, Becky! I wanted to let you know how Tika, our Dragon/Talon pup, is doing. What a joy she is! And how she has livened up the entire household! Even Vegas, our 2 yr. old gsd, is 'unbending' (he was pretty jealous the first several days) and letting her climb on him. Tika has already learned come and no and she is only 8 wks, 2 dys old! I believe we've got the smartest puppy in the country!! Also, thank you so much for the terrific puppy book you sent along with her - it is a wealth of information, as are you! It is reassuring knowing that you are only a phone call away if we need you! I would be happy to speak to anyone inquiring about purchasing a gsd from you. I will send pictures periodically so that you can see how she is coming along. Again, thank you so much for our beautifu Tika!

Hi Becky,

I thought you might like an update on what Bailey is up to these days.  She is ready to begin showing for her CDX and is almost ready to begin showing for her UD.  She is so amazingly easy to train.  I am waiting for her to come in to heat before I enter her in any shows, but she has been to several fun matches and done very well on her open work.  My dream is to have her receive her UD at the Nationals this Fall.

I have had to back up a step with her agility, she is just so fast that she blows her contacts most of the time.  We are not having any trouble getting her to stop, we are just looking for a little more consistency before I show for her titles.  We will be working for her JWW as soon as she comes in and out of heat.

She is part of an obedience team and we will be showing at the GSD Nationals this fall in Albany.  It is really fun and our team has had several practices and we look good.  I hope that you will be able to come to the show in October and see your girl at work.

I know I have said it before but it bears repeating.  This dog is AWSOME and has many admirers.  She is such a happy worker, full of enthusiasm and just the right amount of drive.  Your breeding program works.

Thanks again for her,
Connie

Hi Becky, I gave one of our neighbors your information. She is looking for a second dog and companion for her 2 year old Rott mix and has fallen in love with Harley. (I must admit everyone that meets Harley falls in love with him!) We went to kinder-puppy for the 1st time last week and there were 2 other GSD owners there that kept commenting on his looks as well as his mellow behavior, even when he was playing with the other dogs he made sure he knew where I was at all times as well as would come check in with me from time to time.
He played w/ Isabo on Easter and they had a ball running through the front field chasing each other. The funniest part for them was the wet area of course which Harley later sunk in up to his neck. He looked like a little swamp monster! Dad asked me if you were aware that you bred dogs that loved the water...Gee do you think....
He is a dream and thank you again!!! He is currently lying under my desk here at the office where he comes daily to play with his fan club. I now know the girls in the office definitely take their breaks!
Hope all is well with you!
Take Care! I'll send you some pics as soon as they are developed.

Hi Becky!
I missed sending this to you on Sadie's Birthday(Feb 15) which I had
planned. She is 2 now and is incredible.
First off she is a certified air scent wilderness dog with Intermountain
Search Dogs. We are also in training to become a cadaver team. She has
already made one remains find.
Secondly we are a member of "The Ruff Revue". A freestyle dance group
that performs at nursing homes and school. She has a much better beat
than I do and loves the music.
Thirdly we just passed our Delta pet therapy test and will soon start
going into the hospitals.
Her favorite is search and rescue. She just loves to get out and run
behind her marvelous nose!
I use to be a couch potato until Sadie came!
She is very busy, loves to socialize with dogs and people. She learns new
things very quickly and loves to work, whatever that work may be.
I call her my "happy monkey" She is so full of life and I know if I
taught her to climb trees she would be at the top swinging around.
We are going to the Washinton State SAR conference May 17-21 and I am
hoping to see some of your dogs there.
I hope all is going well with you and that all your pups turnout as
great a Sadie!

I just thought I would give you an update on Rogue. He is one of the Polly/Dragon pups. He is growing into an incredibly handsome dog! He's 7 1/2 months now, and we get compliments on him where ever we go. We have started our Disaster SAR training through FEMA, and everyone in the group is impressed with his drive, and willingness to try new things. They have said, on more than one occassion, that he is one of the best puppies they have had come through there in a long time. He is truly amazing! And I wouldn't doubt if you have some people from the task force coming to you in the future for puppies. He has been a wonderful representation of what a true working GSH should be. You would be very proud of him. I know I am. Thank you for such a wonderful companion! Jennifer

On June 22nd Harry Hanson Writes about his Nadia-Dragon Puppy

Hi Becky,

Just wanted to say thanks for such a wonderful dog.  Max is everything I had hoped for in a beautiful German shepherd.
He is built stocky and strong, and I can't say enough about his personality.  He is such a good boy.  He loves to play, but he is also so well behaved.
He has a great temperament.
Thought I might pass along some more pictures of Max.  These were taken the other day at exactly 16 weeks old.
He is growing up fast, weighing in at 42 lbs. already!   And that's muscle, not fat.   He gets lots of exercise every day.
He still has his sweet, calm temperament, although he likes to play and get into mischief like any normal pup.
It's amazing how everywhere I take him, people are so impressed with him.
I get people yelling from hundreds of feet away about what a beautiful dog he is.
He really attracts a lot of attention.  He gets bombarded with compliments.
Thanks again and I hope all is well out there.              Harry

Hello Becky.
I thought it was about time to send a photo of Inga Vom Holtzberg, one of last July's Dragon-Jena litter.  She is the one I picked up from you at the airport in Portland.  She is the most intelligent, brightest, most trainable dog I have ever owned.  If I would have known that I was getting such a social, protective, trainable, beautiful dog from you, I would of paid you double what I did.  She excels at agility, obedience, and seems to have the drive to do whatever is put in front of her.  The fact that her high prey drive and intense spirit is controlable makes her the best.  She is the calmest and gentlest dog in the world when needed and can fly through brick walls when asked to do so.  I know that raising the dog has a lot to do with it but it would not be possible without the great pedigree and background that she has.
Thank you very much.

Gildan is the cutest pup ever, even cuter than Rogue.  Sorry Jen but he is.  Becky, I apologize for not sending more pictures earlier.  I will definitely try and be a little more on top of things from now on.  Just to let you know, Gildan is now a little over 45 LBs. He is a rambunctious precocious into everything puppy that loves people as well as other dogs.  His hobbies include eating mulch, chasing his Kong and bothering our Jack Russell Munchkin.  He has multiple girlfriends in the neighborhood and one at the dog park.  His #1 Girlfriend in the neighborhood is Belle, a 3 year old mama beagle with lots of energy.  And his girlfriend at the dog park is a 4 month old Great Dane puppy named Sprocket, who I am sorry to say wears the pants in their relationship since she is bigger than Gildan.  By the way, did I mention he is the cutest puppy ever.  I am having a great time with Gildan and he has taken to our little family so well.  He is great with our Cat Jackson and even though he bothers Munchkin, I think she secretly appreciates the attention.  He is becoming extremely handsome and I will try to get some better pictures to prove it.  Thanks Becky for the awesome pup!

Raleigh has been through 3 training classes, He has been the Top Dog in all his classes,Top in Agility, Fastest Learner, Best in Commands!
Raleigh is of the Nadia-Dragon litter of 10/15/04
Raleigh was socialized to crowds of people since the age of 3 months and is totally predictable, has rock solid nerves and seems to fear nothing. Raleigh has a very high prey drive, He will retrieve a nylabone Frisbee and Chuck-It-Ball all day long, sometimes to the point of driving you nuts.
Raleigh is social around other dogs not causing any problems. He loves to herd my pygmy goats.
Raleigh was accepted to the International K-9 Search and Rescue Services Team on 9/27/05 He will go through extensive training that will take quite a long time.
I receive compliments on him all the time, what a beautiful animal, and of course, "what breed is he?" which I reply to;
"HE IS A REAL GERMAN SHEPHERD!"
Raleigh has been raised around my 13 year old daughter, and my 10 year old son and their friends, of which Raleigh thinks he is one of the 10 year old boys playing with them all the time.

Hi Everyone,
I would like to take a little time to tell my story. My son got a gsd from West German show lines, and what a neat dog. She learned real fast and impressive obedience.  I started reading about gsd's more & more.  I learned about working dogs and how much more potential they have. I liked the East German look with their big bones and big 'ole heads. I contacted Becky after seeing her web site and told her I was looking for a dog to do sch work with. She honestly told me she didn't have a lot of requests for sch dogs and that most people really want a good pet. She got someone to help her pick my pup from Navar x Poly. He has always been the best , giving his all at everything I ask of him.  Becky, thank you, great pick.  She also recommended a very good book that I myself would like to recommend, Purely Positive Training by Shelia Booth.   Almost three years later I found a club that I really like, Reno Sch Gruppe.  Five weeks later I got my Sch BH, and hope to get my Sch 1 this summer sometime.  Kruger has been one those once in a life time dogs.  He is never dog aggressive, extremely strong nerved, loves everybody, yet his fight drive and protection is top quality.

Becky also has a very professional puppy package, which includes everything to get any one started on the right track. I have never been to her house but you can tell she spends a lot of time socializing just by the amount of pictures she takes. Kruger from day one has never shown any fear of anything, nerves of steal.  I could go on forever with great stories and it all started with Vom Holtzberg. Thanks again Becky and keep up the good work.

Hi Becky,
Just popping in to say hello and give you an update on Bodi (Gryppy and Dragon). This dog is everything we could possibly want. Good with kids, alert to strangers, friendly when told its o.k., smart, always willing to please, and when around water I think he is part seal. He doesn't know quit when it comes to the retrieve and would rather pass out from exhaustion before giving up. It really is a shame that he's not a police dog. The schutzhund training isn't
going to happen at this point in time with my work schedule but we are going to do some serious personal protection training with him (full body bite suit) and will keep you posted on that. I have attached a picture of him sitting on my cart at the golf course. He doesn't let anyone get on the cart except me, one of his traits that I really like. He loves the golf course and thinks the whole place is his. I hope everything is well with you and your family and thanks again for this dog. I look forward to purchasing
another one of your dogs in the future. Take care, Jeff Oteri

Gildan is doing great.  He is now around 80 pounds.   He definitely has the drive you look for in working dogs.  I could not be happier with him.  He is absolutely gorgeous and is as strong as a bull.  He is the perfect GSD.  He is protective but also loveable.  He is starting to come into his own in terms of confidence.  He just reached 18 months old.   We have not been doing Schutzhund lately however.  The club here in in my town fell apart and it no longer has a trainer.  I still work with Gildan on his obedience though and I will get him to his Schutzhund I title if it takes me 10 years.  I know he would pass the BH now and it would not take much to get him to his.

Dear Becky

I am writing this to update you on Zeus, affectionately called Zeusman, son of Briya and Ernie. I have had German Shepherd Dogs as pets all of my life. This would be the first male I have ever had. Its always been a "must" for me to have female dogs. I must say that for my next Shepherd it would be harder to decide the gender after having Zeus.
I have read nearly all of your testimonials on your beautifully done web site. Unfortunately I cannot brag of all the training  and achievements he has gotten, for where I live there is no classes of any kind available. I bought Zeus for me! Shepherds are awesome family dogs. Their loyalty is unmatched to any other breed I am yet to know. I have never had a gsd like him.  His demeanor is Regal. He is now 70 lbs and almost 8 months old. He is so gorgeous. Everyone including my veterinarian always compliments on his temperament and looks.
He loves to jump and does it better than any Shepherd I have ever had. Frisbee is ONE of his favorites.  I buy lots of toys for him.  He can differentiate all of them. From the "yucky" Frisbee to the "good one" or the "squeak" and so many others. He will bring which ever toy I ask him for right in the middle of play. He loves to go and look for the things I ask him to. He would love doing search and rescue if it were available here. When I speak to him, he hangs on my every word, listening so intently to me he turns his head from side to side. He does all I ask of him and more.
He is my buddy and go everywhere guy. The way he watches over his people and property is pretty amazing considering he is only a puppy. He fears nothing. He goes into new situations slowly and confidently. I often see him just staring as if he is absorbing information of new situations. He will just sit by my side watching intently at other dogs playing etc. rather than playing with them.
Oh and he likes to talk too, and what he has to say is very important. When I pick up my daughter from school, he  will start licking and loving on her,  happy to see her.  She will yell at him, "stop Zeus!" (she doesn't like dogs licking her) and he will bark back at her scornfully for yelling at him and not letting him say hello!
I could go on and on telling you the things that just amaze me about him,  but I won't. I will just say thank you for the wonderful companion and best friend Becky. He was an excellent addition to our family. I want to get another one from you, as soon as I talk my husband into it :) !

It's been a long time since I updated you on Sager who is a Polly/Navar pup.  Sager is 4 years old as of March 07.  This summer was our first attempt at a title for his CD.  I was his biggest skeptic which is why it took me so long even though my obedience instructor has been telling me he was ready.  I joined Nor-Cal Dog Training club a couple years ago and they finally forced me to enter him in the AKC event in Gridley, CA.  It was a 4 day show and I entered him for all 4 days.  The first day he scored a 187 and got first place.  I received several compliments on his recall from other handlers.  They said his recall was the best they've seen in years.  His recall usually consists of a jump start and sometimes a little bark and a full speed run straight towards me.  He slams on his breaks at the last second and stops and sits right in front of me.  They loved his eagerness.  The second day he got first place again with a score of 189 and the last day he got a score of 191 and again first place.  We competed with a total of 3 to 4 dogs so not many.  I was extremely proud of him.  Our biggest challenge with obedience is that he likes to crowd me and I'm still working on that.
He seems to love performing.  I'm not sure when I'll go for his CDX title but we are currently working on it.
I have done some tracking with him but I don't always have the help I need in making tracks so tracking is a rare opportunity for Sager.  Sager loves to track but mostly I think he just likes to work.  He loves having a job and always has to have something to do.  Overall I don't think I could have picked a better shepherd.  I am extremely proud of him and plan on getting another shepherd possibly sometime next year but a female this time.  I am attaching a couple pictures of Sager so you can see for yourself how he's done.  Thanks again for producing such wonderful German Shepherds!!!

Hello Becky!

We’ll here he is at 12 weeks.  My do they grow up fast!    He’s doing great, and we will be putting him in obedience training very soon. He’s very stubborn, and very protective, but all in all, he’s a really awesome dog.
As you can tell, he’s lightened up a lot, and from what I can tell by looking at his feet, he’s going to be a big boy.
Thanks again, he’s a great dog.

Hi Becky,

Just wanted to pass on some pictures of Shadow. He's grown so big in a short amount of time. Full of energy and rarin to go at all times. To date, the FEMA person I'm working with advises not to begin obedience training with him until at least 10 months old then of course Search and Rescue work after that. He has gotten so many compliments thus far and I always tell everyone your site so hopefully you may get some advertisement too. I know for a fact the FEMA person already checked your site out cause she had wanted to view back grounds of studs and bitches and she loved what she saw. Anyway, let me know what you think of the pictures. I'll take more as time goes on and get them to you. Hope all is well in Oregon.
