These pages are devoted to a scenario I made for Combat Mission based on the assault on Burpelson Air Force Base in the movie Dr. Strangelove. Questions about CM can be answered with the unofficial FAQ(you will be re-directed to most current version) I maintain at the CM Forum. Enjoy!
SCENARIO BRIEFING:
General Jack Ripper of Burpelson Air Force Base issued an order to the 34 B-52s of the 834th Bomb Wing which were airborne at the time as part of a special exercise we were holding called Operation Dropkick. It appears that the order called for the planes to attack their targets in Russia. The planes are fully armed with nuclear weapons with an average load of 40 megatons each.
This man is obviously a psychotic. The aircraft have penetrated Russian radar cover and will complete their bomb runs in 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, the Russians will go absolutely ape and strike back with everything they've got and we will suffer virtual annihilation.
Only General Ripper has the recall code. The 23rd Airborne Division is stationed at Alvarado, seven miles away from Burpelson Air Base, and will attempt to capture Gen. Ripper.
DESIGNER'S NOTES:
This scenario is meant to be played as the 23rd Airborne(Axis) FIRST. It is meant to be a fun little scenario based on the assault on Burpelson Air Base in the movie "Dr. Strangelove: or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb."
GOALS:
If you are the Germans and both Ripper and Mandrake die, you automatically lose. Capture at least one alive or if the base surrenders with at least one of them alive at the end of Turn 30, you win regardless of the end game screen result! (At least until Major Kong carries the day, but that's neither here nor there...)
If you do choose to be the Allies, you win if you prevent the General's Office (large victory flag) from being captured and the end game screen counts. Ripper's bombers will have successfully carried out a first strike. After which Russia's doomsday device and counterstrike kicks in. (Again, neither here nor there...)
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:
And a shout-out to Minnesota Joe for the idea of using roadblocks on rubble to get that nice 3D rubble effect. Another to deanco for inspiration from his Battle for Prime Time 2 scenario. And one final one to Otto for testing my scenario.
