These rules are different from National and State, print competition rules to make print competition more affordable to enter at a local level and perhaps gain important insight for state and national competition. 1. Regular Print Competition will be held twice a year. 2. All Active, Associate, Aspiring, Retired, Honorary Life and Photographic Artists members in good standing may enter Print Competitions. Related Trade, Sustaining and Student members and nonmembers can not enter prints. 3. A maximum of six (6) prints per member maybe entered per competition with a maximum of four (4) prints in any one category. 4. Prints will be accepted up to 30x40 inches in size. Prints 8x10 inches or smaller in size must be mounted on 11x14 board to be entered. Prints may mounted on masonite or canvas but a protective covering must be provided to prevent damage to your print or to other prints entered in competition. Transparencies of any size may be entered also. They should be mounted on a 12"x12" mat (preferably black) 5. No two photographs shall be of the same subject unless the treatment is such as to produce two entirely different photographs. Entries previously submitted to a SFVPP Print competition or not photographed within the last 24 months are not eligible. 6. ALL PRINTS MUST BE ENTERED BEFORE THE START OF PRINT COMPETITION. Regular meetings start at 7:00 and Print Competition shall start at 8 P.M. or as soon as possible. 7. In order to identify and list entries, all prints must be titled. A registration form must be taped to the back of all prints with the following information clearly marked: Name of maker, title of print, category of print and date of competition. Prints without a completely filled out registration form will be disqualified. 8. Regular Print Competition has four (4) categories: Portrait (Photographs of brides or weddings may not be entered in this category); Wedding (or Bar or Bat Mitzvah) (all photographs pertaining to brides or weddings must be entered in this category); Commercial/Industrial; and Unclassified (Pictorial must be entered as unclassified). 9. Entry fees: (per competition) One (1) print $5, Two (2) prints $6, Three (3) prints $7, Four (4) prints $8, Five (5) prints $9, Six (6) prints$10. Members do not have to be in attendance to enter prints. 10. Scoring: the point system is used with scores from 100 to 0 as follows: Exceptional 100-95, Superior 94-85, Excellent 84-80, Above Average 79-76, Average 75-74, Fair 73-70, Unacceptable 69-0. All photographs receiving initial scores of 79-76 are automatically challenged and reviewed. On the re-judging the change of a score is by majority vote and the final score of 80 will be awarded. 11. AWARDS: Honorable Mention ribbons will be awarded for scores 79-76. Award of merit ribbons will be awarded for scores 100-80. Best of Class ribbons will be awarded for each print category to the print receiving the highest score over 80. The Best of Show award will be selected from the Best of Class winners at each competition. |
