The Singles Motorcycle Club was formed in 1999 by Flo Samuels to help men with motorcycles meet women who wanted to be passengers and women who ride their own bikes. The club is now run by participating volunteers and has over 375 members. Singles Motorcycle Club provides a fun group to ride with, and for those looking for a mate, a way to meet someone with a common interest: Motorcycling.
Twice a month we have day rides of 150 to 275 miles. One ride is on a Saturday, and the other is on a Sunday. Several times each year we do overnight rides such as Death Valley (five days) and Bridgeport, as well as trips with other groups like BMW on their Range of Light Gypsy Tour. Other club activities include Happy Hours, dinners, comedy shows, concerts, festivals, museum exhibits, campouts, hiking, and house parties.
If you are wondering who attends the rides, our members are all ages (from 25 to 65), all heights, all shapes and sizes. We have many different makes and styles of bikes, from sport bikes to touring bikes to cruisers (yes, Harleys too). Plus there are no dues, no Board of Directors, and very few rules. See below for the ones we do have. Join the fun. You'll be glad you did!
How Do We Arrange Rides?
We have five pickup locations around the Bay Area to gather participants before officially heading out on a ride. Pickups are located near major highways in San Jose, San Mateo, San Francisco, Hayward and Oakland. The time listed for each pickup is the time you leave that location, not the time you arrive. Rides officially begin at the final pickup location (the one listed last in each ride's pickup schedule). RSVPs are not required - just show up! Any rider who has a spare helmet - please bring it for potential passengers.
Maps of each pickup location are shown at the bottom of the 2008 Schedule page. Riders generally go to the pickup location nearest to their homes to get passengers. If either a rider or a passenger is at a pickup location, and the hour for leaving has arrived but no one else has, go to the next pickup or go to the final pickup location. It may mean a little extra driving, but the fun is worth it!
If for some reason a rider and a passenger are not really comfortable with each other - don't worry. You may have the option of changing at an upcoming stop. Mix and mingle to meet more people!
Do you want to know what the group is like? Read some of the trip reports on the sidebar to the left. Keep in mind that what you read is only a small sample of what actually happened. We do have a lot of fun on our adventures.
What About the Rules?
The only "rules" are:
1. You are single and not involved with someone (OR if you are involved, your partner MUST be on the ride with you. If your partner can't make it, you'll have to skip the ride).
2. Everyone is responsible for their own expenses (food, beverages, gas, toll, admission, motel, etc.)
3. Riders must have a street legal motorcycle with valid registration and insurance, and an M1 endorsement.
4. If a man, you are experienced in carrying passengers (waived for new riders). You don't have to take passengers, but it would be nice, so we can avoid leaving any ladies behind.
5. You understand and abide by basic group ride safety (ride at your own speed, wait at turns for the next bike, notify the leader or sweep before leaving the group, ride in staggered formation, no passing on the right, those who want to go faster may ride in the front of the leader, etc.).
