The Building of a HotRod! |
This page will show step by step how I am turning my 89 S10 Blazer into a Street Rod using the "Rodster" body conversion kit. |
My name is Joe. I have been working in the auto industry for about 17 years. I have been a mechanic at a new car dealer, driven wreckers , helped restore cars and truck and have worked on race cars for my friends. I have always wanted to build a hotrod. I finally am going to do it! I am going to build "The Rodster", a hot looking little rod. I found the kit while on the Internet. I was looking for a winter project and there it was. A simple and easy to build vehicle that uses a modern drive train and has the look of those fat fendered rods of yesterday. So the project begins! Come back often! I'll be updating the page as the Blazer turns into the "Rodster"! |

Cl .The first thing you need when you build a kit car is a solid donor vehicle. My kit calls for a 2 door, 2 wheel drive S10 Blazer. Well, after looking at a few in Michigan, I knew I would have to look south for a worthy machine. See, it's funny , but in Michigan vehicles have this thing with rust. The older the truck the more of the cursed red metal it is gonna have. After searching high and low I found what looked like the truck I wanted. it was located in a small town called Franklin, in the state of Kentucky. It was there I not only found my machine but met some wonderful folks at Ron Kirby's Cars and Things. |

I would like to thank Karol Kirby for her help with purchasing getting this truck. She and her office went way out of their way to insure that I would be happy with this vehicle, going as far as sending it to a mechanic and having it inspected for frame damage. You have to remember, I bought this truck literally sight unseen. All I had to go on was Karol's word on how good it was. |
The trip home went smooth. Well, most of it did. Everything was fine, until Toledo! It was there that the exhaust fell off of my tow vehicle. It was 11 at night and there I was. laying on my back outside the Jeep plant taking the muffler off my truck. This guy comes up out of no where and asks if I was ok. I said yes I was. He then told me repeatedly "how nice that Blazer is". I could almost hear the theme from "Deliverance" as he spoke (sound famillier Karol). Then there were the 2 accidents I just missed being a part of. I finally got home at mid-night. 10 hours on the road and I could finally rest |
