901. Finney County, Kansas Will Abstracts 1885-1922: Will Books A-D, by Patricia D. Smith with Katherine K. Powell. There are a large number of "foreign wills" in the early will books. Land and emigration companies, as well as railroads promoted both settling and investing in land. Many received land through assignment of mortgages that later were foreclosed. The largest numbers recorded were from the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Main, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York and Pennsylvania. The abstracts include the name of the individual who left the will, pertinent information of relatives, witnesses, executors, and death dates. Every name index. 1990. 70 pp. softbound. $6.00 |





791. History of Upper Timber Creek School, Cowley County, Kansas 1879-1979, by Stanley C. Smith. A history of a one room country school that existed for 100 + years. UTC School, founded in 1879, closed in 1955, but continued through the yearly alumni reunions until 1993. Of more than 3200 names included, the most often mentioned are: Adams, Akins, Albert, Barnhill, Cooper, Davis, Elam, Ewalt, Griffin, Harris, Herr, Hickman, Jamison, Jones, Lanier, Mathews, Mills, Morgan, McCaw, Osborn, Parker, Peterson, Primrose, Putnam, Shields, Smith, Stickle, Sweet, Tharp, Tomlin, Whiteman, Williams, Wilson, Yarbrough, and Young. The school records are verbatim copies of all the existing school records, Clerk's records, Treasurer's Record and Teacher's Registers. Some record exists for every year. The county's copies for this school were destroyed in the county courthouse when it was flooded in the early 1940's.
