Snow Day
Gerri Harvey, RN, MEd

Up at 5:30, it's not even light
My body says it should still be night.
Hop on the treadmill, still half asleep
Walk 40 minutes, my waistline to keep.

Put on the coffee, dash to the shower
Must be at my school in less than an hour!
Wake up the hubby, make us each lunch
Gell up my hair, blow dry and scrunch.

Start planning my day, the heads I will check
The follow up call about Bobby's sore neck.
The meeting I have at quarter past eight
The report I must finish that's already late.!

Take a deep breath now, don't start the day stressing
You know that your job is really a blessing
You love what you do and you love where you do it
Won't be a great day, but you know you'll get through it.

Hurry, hurry, omigosh now it's late
Sometimes I think there's too much on my plate!
What I wouldn't give to drop out for a day
Just do what I want, well "dream on!" as they say.

Put out the dog,
(oh my goodness......it's snowing.!)
It's six inches deep and it's swirling and blowing.
I look with delight at the snow in my yard
I look at the sky, it's coming down hard.

Turn on the radio.....school is cancelled they say
Well, dear Mr. Newsman, you just made my day!
As visions of my "snow day" dance in my head
I happily, guiltlessly, go back to bed.
