Here is the unit apart, the only slightly complex thing about reassembly is getting the shaft back on the stub sticking out of the back (arrows #1)
Be careful how you set it down, there is a very small shaft sticking out of the front and that disc on the back is not too strong. (#2) |
Note where the gear is on the shaft then gently pry the offending gear off the shaft. When it is off roughen up the shaft with a little 220 grit sandpaper, you just want it a little scuffed to give the JB Weld a better grip. You can also probably use Crazy Glue or something else but JB Weld is really easy to control as to where it goes. Note which way the gears go, the spiral gear had a little square hole in the outside end, the toothed gear did not look directional but why take a chance. |
Again sorry about the crappy focus, pack the gear full of JB Weld being careful to wipe the face clean. |
Press the gears back on, I used a little JB Weld in the spiral gear just as a precaution, it was not cracked but prying it off and pressing it back on may have weakened its grip on the shaft. Leave it overnight to cure then reassemble the unit. |
I stuck a cordless drill with a square drive in the chuck up the cable hole in the back and left it running a while. Seems to work fine. |
