I like 3 things in my 240s Boost, Gauges and Switches and the things they control.
My '88 maxed out with the addition of antenna down and heated mirror switches.  The AC controller takes up one space with the microswitch hanging off the side of it so that space is out. What's a non smoker (hint) to do.
This here is a waste of space for me.  My radar detector is hardwired so the cigar lighter can go.  A '91 down at the local PNP was nice enough to donate a center console for $7 so I wasn't out much if I hacked it up.
I heated up a razor knife with a propane torch to cut the center out.  The used a variable speed Dremel tool to start trimming off the raised portion of the cigar lighter part of the console.  Trim it flat to match the surrounding area.
Here's the finished cutout.  I had to trim the corners with an X-Acto knife, the cutoff wheel I was using on the Dremel was too large to get in there.
Here it is with a couple of old spare switches I had laying around.  I had to hit the sides of the 2 on the left with some sandpaper where they meet.  The opening is about 1/2 mm too small for them to lay flat as they were.

Be sure you trim the frame down to the same thickness as the rest of the frame or the clips will not hold the switches in properly.  This modification gives room for 6 switches in addition to the AC knob and seatbelt warning light.  The microswitch can be removed from the AC switch also.  That's next.
