Homeopathy for First Aid

These are some of the homeopathic remedies that I keep on hand for what I call acute emergencies. They should be in everyone's emergency first aid kit for the times that your canine gets into trouble at home, out on the trail or on a show circuit. They will provide emergency first aid until you have time to see a vet, or may prevent a trip to the vet altogether.

Rescue Remedy

One of the premier remedies to keep on hand is rescue remedy. The most well know is the Bach flower remedy ..a mix of five floral essences in 5x potency ;this remedy is one that goes wherever I go, I always keep a bottle handy for stressful situations. It is always the first remedy to reach for in case of injuries, fears, and stress for your animals.

Arnica Montana 30C

This is for those animals that suddenly come up lame after a run, or any type of joint injury, it is used for blows, and prevents bruising and stops bleeding. The tincture of Arnica is used for external use only, and can be massaged into areas that have been injured provided there is no broken skin.

Aconite 30C

Is a remedy to have on hand in case of trauma, shock , pain or fear, particularly in accidents or traumatic injuries.

Apis Mellifica 6x

Another excellent remedy to take along with you or have handy. Wasp and bee stings can be life threatening to your animals or yourselves. I know, I am one of those people that used to carry a bee kit  after having a near death experience from a wasp sting. The last time I was stung by a wasp, I used the Apis on myself and was amazed how quickly it worked. Instead of rushing off to the hospital or calling 911, I decided to try this remedy on myself. Dogs are famous for snapping at bees and wasps and on several occasions I have had to use this remedy to bring down the inflammation. It has never failed me yet. It is also excellent for swollen joints or any type of inflammation to bring down the swelling.

Hypercium 30C

Can be used for any injury involving nerve damage, especially pain in the feet.

Ledum 30C

I excellent for puncture wounds from bites or other injuries.

Ruta Grava 30C

Aids with injuries to muscles, tendons and ligaments, where there is bruising over the bone.

Rhux Tox 6c or 30C

Helps rheumatism and arthritis when the pet is stiff when first getting up and seems better after moving around.

Bryonia 30C

Is for the opposite situation when the pain worsens with movement.

Belladonna 30C

An excellent remedy to keep on hand for fevers, or sudden or acute pain.

Nux Vomica and Nux Mochata  30C

Are remedies I have for upset tummies or dogs that have eaten something that didn't agree with them.
I keep Nux Mochata on hand as a Bloat remedy, it works fast for a rumbly tummy and for any sign of bloat I give it immediately to them. It may even prevent a trip to the vet if caught immediately.

Calendula tincture or cream

Good to keep in your first aid kit for cuts and abrasions. Be careful on deep cuts as you want the healing to occur from the inside out and calendula tends to heal over quickly which could keep any toxins inside. I have used collodial silver for deep cuts with great success.

Is your dog prone to car sickness?? Ginger is excellent for this, be it in the form of a gingersnap cookie, crystallized ginger or a capsule of  the powder.
