WE ARE loyal UBC members, working on change within the system, to return control to the rank and file WE ARE convinced that the power to govern the members is granted by the members, and those holding it are accountable to the members. WE ARE certain that the ability to vote directly on contracts, dues and representation is a basic, irrevocal right. WE ARE enthusiastic in supporting organizing efforts. and realize that an empowered membership is the voice that will regain our respect. WE ARE concerned that paid staff have a conflict of interest when elected as eligible nominees in delegate elections, and all automatic delegations be eliminated. WE ARE seeking a major rewriting of the basic documents of the UBC, and its sub groups, with the intent of transforming their legalese and convoluted language into living documents that can be read and understood by those affected by their meaning. WE ARE demanding the removal of language limiting rights of the members, ruled illegal by federal law over 40 years ago, whose sole remaining function is to intimidate and disenfranchise the members; and are against the amendments proposed by the General President further consolidating power in the hands of as few. WE ARE supporting the rights of all members to voice their opinions on the issues, and to vote meaningful votes, for the purpose of directing the course of our great organization.
