Thank you for viewing my Tagging Page. I have been tagging fish for years and have found it to be an interesting and enjoyable pastime. For many years I tagged fish in my home lake, Green Pond, NJ. I had my telephone number on the tag and people would call me when they caught one of my fish. I have discontinued this tagging program, but I learned quite a bit about the fish in Green Pond. Through the years I have also participated in the ALS fish tagging program. My son, Jim thinks tagging is stupid and harms the fish. He says it is of no value. But what does he know? 12/18/07 - Following email from George Horvath regarding his 2007 tagging. His tagged bass picture is at the right. Thanks George.
"11/28/2007 I caught, tagged and released 34", 31" and 28" striped bass with Bombers on the Barnegat Inlet north jetty. Enclosed is a picture of the 34" with the tag just before I released it. I tagged 509 fish in NJ this year: 298 bluefish, 134 striped bass, 51 sea bass, 22 weakfish and 4 fluke. Bluefish were recaptured in NYC and Toms River, NJ. 2/1/03 - I AM NO LONGER SUPPORTING OR RECOMMENDING FISHING UNLIMITED FOR TAGGING OR ANYTHING ELSE. FOR MONTHS I HAVE BE UNABLE TO CONTACT THEM BY PHONE OR EMAIL. I HAVE EVEN TRIED TO PURCHASE TAGGING SUPPLIES WITHOUT AN ANSWER. CONTRIBUTIONS TO THIS ORGANIZATION ARE NOT RECOMMENDED.
News:12/12/02 - Recently I read a fish that was tagged in November 25, 1990 was recaptured August 7, 2002. In 11 years, 8 months, and 13 days it grew from 13 inches to 45 inches. It was originally caught by Tony Evangelista of Fairview, NJ off a pier in the East River and was tagged with a A.L.S. tag # 247288. It was recaptured by Mike Letavic of Mystic, Connecticut on Fishers Island Sound. This is the longest return recorded to date by the American Littoral Society since 1965.
01/22/00 I received Check for $10.00 from the Hudson River Fishing Assoc. for the tag I returned. No info as yet on the story behind the fish.
On 11/24/99 I caught a small tagged striper at Sandy Hook. It was a HRFA (Hudson River Fishing Assoc.) belly tag which I return to them.
On 03/16/01 I received a certificate of participation from the Hudson River Fishing Association for the tag I returned for a bass caught 11/24/99. This fish had previously been caught and tagged at the upper bay of New York Harbor on November 12, 1998.
On 6/28/01 I returned 4 ALS and 12 FU tags for fish I caught at Cape Cod during June. I no longer support Fishing Unlimited for tagging fish. They are not conducting their business properly - added 2/1/03
