My great grandmother was a Jay and I am working on a genealogy. I am hoping to get more information. My g grandmother was Alice Medora Jay (born in 1882 in MN and married Oliver Barlow), her father was James Hiram Jay (born 1839 in Essex County, England) and his father was John Jay (born in 1808 in Essex, England and married Elizabeth Etherton). That's where I hit the brick wall. Anyone out there from this line of Jays?

I am just beginning my search. I am a descendent of William Jay and Mary Vestal according to information given to me by my ex-mother-in-law before she died. She was an avid geneologist but kept all records on a data base that was lost when she died last year. I was told that William was my Grandfather 7 times removed. His son James was next in line according to my papers, then John, then Alva. Hope this is correct.

I am interested in the Hughes connection to the family. However, I don't think I am related to the Hughes in Forsyth/Dawson Co. Mostly, my James Hughes were in Cherokee Co.,GA, coming from Laurens Co, SC in 1860. He was in DeKalb Co. in 1850, married w/5 children. His wife died, he returned to Laurens Co, SC, married Rebecca Todd, came to Cherokee Co., GA and had 8 more children.

Looking for more info on Mary Jay and Charles Patty. Would like to find a descendant or someone who knows what happened to this family. There are several land records in SC and we are just trying to sort them out as to which Charles Patty they pertain to. One researcher has stated that Charles and Mary Jay Patty went to OH 1809 then on to IN. Thanks for any help. Excellent website!

After I shared my JFA interest with my daughter, sons and sisters. The following is a reply from one of my sisters: After reading your letter about the "number of cousins" we all have, I scrolled down and clicked on Jayfamilyhomestead.com which brought up the Jay Family Association. I was reading the names of the President, Secretary, etc. and scrolled on down and saw "Guest Book." I clicked "View Entries" and began reading the names. The fifth entry is a girl I have known since the fourth grade and we graduated from high school together. She was always a good friend. I had lunch with her several months ago. Now she is one of my cousins? Small world. Her name is Margret Hancock Pearce.
