Gay Woods was a great Artist and an inspiration to me. Used to see Auto Da Fe when they played in Bray all those years ago. Never missed a week and always looked forward to a great performance. Hope she is doing well. Love and light jackie

Just wanted to drop by and say how much delight your singing and songs have given me all the way through your career, from Steeleye mkI through the Woods Band and yours and Terry's albums, Auto da Fe and all of it. I honestly can't think of anybody in possession of such a talent who's stayed so modest about it. The Reward and Man of Mine are probably my favourites. Songs to listen to with tears of mixed emotions streaming down the face, pure delight at those wonderful tunes and being moved by the hints of heartbreak. Thank you for countless happy hours of listening.

Dear Ms Woods, I have been a lifelong fan of your music and your singing. One favourite song of mine has always been Steeleye Span's Dark- Eyed Sailor, but my absolute favourite song of yours is Back to You from The Time is Right. This song is an absolute masterpiece and deserves to ranked alongside even Sandy Denny's Who Knows Where the Time Goes. I cannot fathom why it was not included in your Best Of CD. For me this without a doubt your finest performance. The corresponding album The Time is Right should definitely be made available on CD. Thank you for the pleasure your Music has given me. Best wishes from Germany Frank Toedter

New film coming out called Sing Street based in Dublin. Auto DA Fe and Minor Detail were inovators. It is amazing that the music never made it to CD. Ye were a great band. I never got to see ye live but ye were brilliant. Would love to see the tunes being remastered and re-released.

Hi gay . you won't have any idea who I am. However just wanted to let you know that many of the auto da fe gigs I attended back in the early 80s were stupendous and tremendously enjoyable for me. I travelled to see the band play from rush to bray and other places in between.

I just had a look at that song, not sure it's the same performance that you're referring to but don't get the feeling that there's anything up between Gay and Maddie, just two different performances, different styles. But oh my God, Gay is so beautiful. Gay you are sooo beautiful. The days when you were in the line up were my favourite times, your beautiful haunting voice added some kind of magic to the overall sound of Steeleye and back in those days the smile never left my face while watching you perform. The line up of today is very different, there is no more Gay, Bob has been gone a while now, and more lately there is no Peter, and for me the band can never be the same again, for although they are still musicians,a particular magic has been lost which I guess is inevitable when long term line ups change. I have some very happy memories of countless Steeleye concerts and though I've said it before I'm going to say it again cos it's nice to - dear Gay, thank you for the music.xx.

Dear Mrs. Woods! In search of inspiration for the new CD of my band I was listening to Steeleye Spans "Time". Ive known some of the songs but for 20 years, but - things happen that way - I never saw the video before, so I didnt had a face to this essential female voice making the differenc in the sound of the band. Now I got it and I was very pleased to meet you in that way. I was very deepely impressed by your voice, your interview, your interpretation of songs and your personality. You won another fan. Ok this should be enough buttering up. I just wanted to thank you for your music, and I hope you are still going on. Youre never too old to R&R ... I am feeling allowed to say this, because years have flown rapidly to me, especially the last twenty of them. Please allow me one Question: What was up between Maddie Prior and you while performing the "Old Maid" on the Video? It seemed to me that you were in some kind of powerless rage while playing the bodhran wich you used as a shield against Maddie while you where singing "they say that the women.... " Could You tell me? Im on your side anyway! Greetings from Vienna/Austria Georg Siegl

Hello Gay, I wonder do you remember me ? I was briefly The Woods band road manager in the early 1970s, this was when my old band mate Steve Ashe was in the band playing bass. I remember going with the band for a short tour of Holland, the actor Jack Galloway( The Mayor of Casterbridge) came along for the ride. I returned home to North Wales shortly after we returned from Holland as my father was very ill and stayed here ever since, I am now 66 and play in a Rock'n'Roll/ Blues band . I often think of the short time I spent knowing youself and Terry, Take care, Regards, Gwyn.

Dear Gay, We miss you! Do you ever come to England anymore? Years ago, when you rejoined Steeleye Span for a time, we used to love you being back in line. You added something so special, with your gorgeous voice, and your lace gloves when you played your bodhran, and the fairy dust and all. I smiled from start to finish in those (sigh....far off) days. Anyways, take best care of your lovely self, and thanks for all the good times, and the smiles. x.

Dear Gay, I hope this finds you well and happy. Chris O, here. I recently made the discovery for myself of your absolutely wonderful music. I feel like I found a piece of myself that I have been missing. Quietly longing for it, perhaps always there, but needing that moment of epiphany to bring it to fruition. That is how I felt the first time I heard your =----- ---------------------------------------- [[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[ [[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[ [[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[ [[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[ [[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[.....ahem! That was one of my cats typing, just there! Thought I'd leave it in for comic effect. As I was saying, that is how I felt the first time I heard your beautiful voice singing "I Missed You". The collection "LAKE SONGS FROM RED WATERS" is simply magnificent, and leaves me hoping that the three albums the songs were culled from will be reissued in their entirety. I have ordered "TENDER HOOKS", and "HARK!..." by Steeleye Span are on their way to me. I also have the AUTO DA FE cd in my nets. I cannot wait to hear you freeing your muse in that particular band context. All of this exploration and discovered treasure due to my renewed interest in Richard and Linda Thompson, Sandy Denny and Trevor Lucas, and "Fotheringport Confusion"! BEDLAM BORN arrived two days ago and I quite like it. "I See His Blood Upon The Rose" is amazing, and the whole album is excellent, concluding with the daring reading of "The White Cliffs Of Dover". I harbor some hope that you are still planning on releasing a solo album, even if it has been ten years sing you left the Span. I look forward to the music to come, and THANK YOU most sincerely for the work that you have done. Cheers! With gratitude and affection, Chris O

Hello Geary Mizuno, you're probably singing a different song by now but anyway here's the words and thanks again. NORTHWINDS Northwinds blowing, days going by, no time for sowing seeds of sorrow. Snowdrops crying, promises dying, nightimes abounding stars of moonshine. ITS TOO SOON TO BORROW A GREEN MEADOW SOFT FEATHERS TO LINE THE NEST. Snow clouds sighing, birds flying by, they'll come back to welcome Spring's homecoming. Forgotten voices stealing through the sky, no hope of finding signs of a day gone by. ITS TOO SOON TO WITHER THE MAY BLOSSOM, JUST FIND THE HALLWAYS AND SHED THE TEARS. EMPTY ROOMS Empty rooms, all alone with the shower I'm living in a bower. No moonglow spills across my floor No birds serenade my dawns. Empty halls, all alone with the pillars Concealing the terror No landscape shivers outside my door No trees cry beneath the moon. Endless roads, all alone with the motor hear it turning over power dark wheels turning blindly night skies foretelling the turn. I've my treasures kept, all alone with the Flowers I'm living in a bower cold street lights whisper away my nights only the roads to celebrate my dawns Celebrate my dawns. all the best to all singers and poets, may they hum and haw and sing forever. Amen. Gay.

Thank you also the musicians who played in the spirit of the times and the here and now. Such beautiful voices in Samklang and now I have a whole choir of friends in the lovliest of towns in the Arctic Circle; and where else would I find such warmth!!!?? Hi Gay, During my search through Youtube I came across a reference to Terry and Phil Lynnot - so I decided to search out your name - lo and behold, your website! Great to hear you're still making some music, and I hear you have a daughter? I have a some very fond memories of those early days just before the Steeleye Span, etc. I divorced, remarried , and now live in Canada with my wife and six children and eight grandchildren - gosh that makes me feel old.Haven't played any music since Mash (George Kaye, Dermot O'Connor, and myself), but I do attend the local bluegrass and folkd festivals. I wish you well in whatever direction life takes you, and glad to see you're alive and well. Warmest regards, Gerry
