Gay, Hope you are keeping well. Is there any hope of Auto Da Fe's material making it on to cd? The songs were great. There was a lot of doom and gloom in 80s Ireland but Auto Da Fe gave us great tunes."Magic Moments" was a great. "All is Yellow", "Man Of Mine" etc were all great tunes. They still remain so. I never saw the band live as I was too young. My brother saw ye at "Self Aid" - I was jelous big time. I was always glued to the TV (Anything Goes). It is funny that the majority of the music at the time was rock. Auto Da Fe stood out musically. Ye were under rated - So If you can remaster + re-issue.

Hello Geary Mizuno thanks for your mail requesting words of North Winds and Empty Rooms. I'll get back to you with these later. A nice thought that you are listening to these songs sad though they are, but they do bring back some pleasant memories of times and places,"forgotten voices, stealing through the sky.......... Hello Agnes, thank you for your mail. my father Michael Corcoran now RIP did live in Mount Brown and I was born in the front parlour of a house there. He had a brother indeed called Nicholas, Nick, so we probably are related? if it's the Nicholas Corcoran i'm writing about, he had children Roger, Lorraine, Raphael and Nick as far as I can recall. His wife's name was Vera? Perhaps you are the daughter of the last son Nick Junior? Otherwise we may be strangers with the same name!! any way hope that is something to go on. thanks again. Gay Corcoran Woods.

Dear Ms. Woods: Is it possible for you to post (or email)the lyrics to the songs, "North Winds" and "Empty Rooms." I purchased the LP on which these songs appeared in late 1979 on the Antilles label here in the US, and especially like these two songs. While I've been working out the guitar chords, the words are difficult to hear on the MP-3 files which I purchased from the Apple iTunes store. Thanks for anything that you can do.

Hello Martin, thanks for getting in touch with Matthew and all that valuable information..... regarding drumming. I will say hello to Terry Corcoran artist extrordinaire,(the man who christianised you with that cosmic name in the Baggoot Inn one dark night in that splendidly decorated dressing room)and who is opening his latest exhibition called "Horizons 2" at Tinahely Courthouse Arts Centre this Sunday 26.04.09 which promises to be a spiffing experience - god those blues and reds dancing in the sky.(its a great place Missouri) all all too much and yet not quite enough, laugh, gay.

Hello Klaus from Norway - is it not a strange thing (?), only two nights ago I dreamt i was in Norway and was wondering why I was there! Thank you for your very kind invitation to sing a song with your choir and a good excuse to visit Norway, again. Yes while I was with the St. Span for the second time around, we did sing in Bergen some time ago at the very fine Blues Festival. Keep in touch and hopefully a song or two can be released into the air. thanks again gay woods.

Dear Gay, my enquiry might be a semi professional one. I am the leader of an amateur choir called Samklang (Harmony). It's the choir's 30th birthday in 2010, and we want to celebrate with a Steeleye Span program. Is there any chance for us that you might join us for one song or so? I'm sure you've read (and probably turned down) plenty of invitations before, and I can understand that. It's just that I think Tromsų is a very special town (almost an outpost of civilization), and Samklang is - let's say - a very enthusiastic choir. And as far as I can see neither you or steeleye Span has ever been in Norway. So perhaps you might consider it anyway. Kind regards Yours Klaus

Hi Mathew, thanks for your mails. I'm sure your dad Howard (hello there!) is right, I can't really remember now but I'm sure he does. all the adf stuff is on itunes now, I think. where to get the records, just have to search, ask my dear friend Martin Kelly aka Cosmic Dancer he has a great record shop in the dark corners of the universe whatever that cavern is called, Merchants Arch?? just before one emerges to cross the Ha'penny bridge, (what sort of language is this?) he would be a great help, always was. though Maybe Howard would prefer some Mozart for his birthday now..... bye and thanks a lot for your interest. gay. hello mr. Silverman, - what a name, again sorry I had totally forgotten that song "I feel concerned" gosh what a title. can't help you there, dont think it was ever recorded. but thanks for your interest. all the best. gay.

Hi there again. I was wondering if you could clear something up for me...if you can still remember. But was my dad Howard Wilson in Auto Da Fe at the time of recording Tatitum? Its just that some sites mention some guy called Robbie Brennan and some don't mention anyone. My dad swears blind he was part of the recording of that album. I was just hoping you could remember if he was or not. Cheers.

Hello again Gay.Have just read Dave Evans message further down the page. I am the same as him in that I have long been a fan of Steeleye Span, and am in complete agreement with Dave that the best times were when you were with them, as I said in my previous message. You brought something to the band that is hard for me to describe, but your presense and aura were unmistakeable and unmissable, amazing and beautiful, just as you are. Your haunting voice, your energy, unique and irreplaceable. And your dancing too! And your playing of the bhodran! And the glittery fairy dust that you threw around! Ah, such concerts won't come again, I don't suppose, though I guess one can live in hopes! With love, and thanks.

Love Gay Woods, when she rejoined Steeleye Span for a short time a few ago, they were the concerts that I enjoyed the most. She has such a presence about her, an aura, and when I watched her perform the smile never left my face. Wish she would come to England again to perform. I hope life is treating her well, that she is healthy and happy, and enjoying whatever it is that she is doing at present.

Hi Gay My name is Peter Connolly, I played with Auto Da Fe for a very short stint back in 1989 (I think), when Tom and Finn played in Walters in Dunlaoghaire. I have fond memories of that time, Trevor was always really affirming of me and I loved having the opportunity to play with you given that I had been such a fan previously. I heard you went and studied psychotherapy years later from Leo O'Kelly, maybe not. I followed a similar route and became a psychologist. I now work at that with organisations, and love it and I occasionally write a song or two. I hope all is well with you and wish you great happiness. Peter

just up from clare to study dentistry in 1974, living in serpentine terrace, around the corner from the Oscar cinema in Ballsbridge, my elder brother brought me to a concert there, and I saw you for the one and only time then : I was awe struck by you and your voice. I have never forgotten it. Said brother had When the Time is Right album, long disappeared. Listening to the Hux issue of the best of at the moment, your voice is down a bit in the mix, other instruments could be quieter. Auto de Fe a curiousity! Any plans for an album? Thanks Joe Nolan

I have been a Steeleye Span fan for years. I have just had a another listen to Horkstow Grange. For me, the time Gay was back with the band saw them produce their best and most exciting work for ages and, with the possible exception of They Called her Babylon, ever since as well. It seems to me that she kept the band going through a very difficult period and got very little thanks for it. She can rest assured that true fans recognise and appreciate her contribution to the band's history and continue to enjoy it today.

Hi Gay, I`m a big fan of Steeleye! Always thought that the band`s music was better live, and I mean live recordings as well as gigs. I`ve only quite recently bought/listened to `The Journey` and, although it`s to be expected that the very early material sounds fresher(and better), I also think that the four "Time" songs are superior to their later studio manifestations. I also suspect that the earlier denigrating remarks about B.B. might have been from someone who didn`t see the band perform any of the songs live. Steeleye are such great musicians that I`m beginning to think that ALL of their albums should have been recorded `live`, without too many production frills. A suggestion for the future, perhaps?
